Lestat Posted November 15, 2011 Posted November 15, 2011 Just been reading the report again in the sun about how Sheffield fans shamed football by acting 'improper' towards each other at Bramall Lane in October. After reading the comments below the story, it obviously seems people from all around Britain agree that 'The Sun' Journo's need to get a life really. The Sheffield Derby Shame ~ The Sun Other comments rightly suggested that these kinds of things go on in every game, especially derby games, it's part of the lure of the matches - to shout some abuse at the opposition fans and get it off our chests. A good friend of mine who is a blade was texting me throughout the match and giving me some right stick! fair to say the tables turned in the last 10 minutes So, is the Sheffield Derby 'THE' most intense in Britain? are the Manchester, Liverpool, Nottingham derbies like swan lake compared to ours?
scoobydotcom Posted November 15, 2011 Posted November 15, 2011 The Steel City Derby is the biggest league fixture because I'm from Sheffield and I support Sheffield Wednesday, If I was from somewhere else I would say that is the biggest, saying that ... ... the Manchester derbies have gone to a new level since City's billions came into play
Lestat Posted November 15, 2011 Author Posted November 15, 2011 . ... the Manchester derbies have gone to a new level since City's billions came into play What I tend to think of the Manchester derby and it's fans though scooby is it's turned into a stageplay rather than real football. The thousands of plastic fans with digital camera's just there for the experience than to support their teams. It's not a real atmosphere if you sort of understand what I'm saying. Whereas ours IS.

Like one fan I heard on talkSPORT the other week saying how in some ways he hopes his team doesn't get prompted to the Prem because below that is 'real football' can see where he came from but still all about seeing your team playing with some of the best teams in the world There'll be plenty of camera's at Real Madrid vs Barcelona but i'm sure it's still intense, also a rivalry which to be fair, outstrips any derby going River / Boca Celtic / Rangers AC Milan / Inter .... The other big 3?
alex3659 Posted November 15, 2011 Posted November 15, 2011 I think the sun story was a non starter from the beginning, it backfired on them big time much like their attempts in France in 98. The steel city derby is no bigger deal than a match between Forest and Derby.

The other big 3? Agree mate, but was just wondering about footy in the UK really. We know they have a different kind of passion and the money and stadia obviously helps.

In league points and positional stakes it may not be but I think it means much more to fans in pride than the game you mentioned.

Where I live two thirds of the year most of the lads are Forest fans and I assure you their game agianst Derby means just as much to them, just the same as they don't give the Sheffield derby a second thought same as we don't theirs. Derbies are a big thing where they are nowhere else.

I suppose so, it just always seemed the Sheffield Derby, such a large city divided and such passionate fans of the sport, especially now in the 'real leagues' football had that extra something about it that others cannot match.
