Lestat Posted November 14, 2011 Posted November 14, 2011 As a statement from one regular poster on these football boards said earlier in the season, the league positions and results around October would show a more realistic shape of the season ahead and what to expect. Well in October Sheffield Wednesday won 4 matches from 6, a great comeback in the Steel City Derby to earn a draw and a win in the Cup. The only loss coming at Carlisle on the 25th. Well, we are in 3rd spot behind the two other teams I expected Wednesday to be battling against for promotion this season so I would have to say we should be very confident for the rest of this season. Our top goalscorer is now back after his suspensions and the other two lads up front are also quality for this league. I have to praise Megson for his hard work and commitment to Wednesday in signing the players he has done, giving the encouragement he has (always joining in with his 'Massive' voice from the touchlines) and the way he conducts himself with the fans and press. He seems to have a passion for Wednesday previously lacked by other managers and this just adds to the enthusiasm for us to move onward and upward. Saturdays finally seem to be long awaited by Owls fans unlike a few seasons ago when we dreaded them and didn't know where the next win was coming from. So for this new confidence and buzz at Hillsborough I just want to thank the team, the manager and the fans ~ lets get behind the Blue n White army and hopefully (hope this aint the kiss of death) from Octobers position - carry on in the same vein and LETS GET PROMOTED! UTO! WTID!
F. Sidebottom Posted November 14, 2011 Posted November 14, 2011 Very pleased with Megson so far this season. I believe we have shown we can adapt and play numerous ways - used (more often than not) to good effect. Both attacking and defending. I'd rather see us be able to dig in and stand firm than try to push on and crumble. And if you look back on the goals this season, they're are mixed bag - most though through decent football, rather than the HOOOOFFF that some would have you believe. (I believe) after 16 games last season we had 22 points. This season it was 32. And while we had a good December last season which saw us briefly climb to second, January and February were a disaster. The remaning 30 games of last season saw a haul of only 36 points. If (and a big if) we can keep the consistency we've had so far then I believe we'll be up there fighting at the end. After all we've had knocks so far this season, and we've bounced straight back. The interesting thnig will be when the teams above us also get knocks which they aren't currently used to - will they be able to bounce back the same?
Ding bat Posted November 14, 2011 Posted November 14, 2011 Agree with everything above, 1st season in a long time you actually look forward to going to Hillsborough and away, expecting a good performance and 3 points It may not be the most glam teams we're playing, but that's ok Roll on Tranmere !!

Good points mate, Huddersfield have just had a reality check in the cup and are drawing quite afew games of late. Like you say, if we can keep a winning run going we have every possibility of nicking the second spot. I am more confident with the Owls this season even when we go behind as we are now showing - we can comeback and 'dig in' the team are gelling nicely and there really is a more positive air at Hillsborough than there was last season.

I said to Corky a few weeks ago that the next few weeks would shape your season and I think you will do well. You are 6 points better off this season but the top team were 5 points worse off last season. I do think wednesday are far better equipped for a challenge this season and expect them to be there abouts. I think Charlton will win the league comfortably but any one from five could get the next spot.
