Sam's song..

Doing just that this morning and it took me back to the days when Radio was king..

If I remember right that Bing Crosby song was the theme song for a Sam Costa record show way back when.

Now I know he did 'Woman's hour' but I'm sure that had it's own theme tune, so which show am I thinking of ?

Also looking back to the fifties was it the Jack Jackson show where he used to start with 'OH, IT'S SATURDAY'....

Hey grinder, you've had me trying to remember the programme that Sam Costa introduced ways back. It was 'Housewive's Choice'. He did at least another one but I'm damned if I can remember it. I suppose that was the one with 'Sam's Song' as the introductory music.

I can't remember the Bing Crosby recording at all. If I had to say which version I DO remember clearly, it would be the Dean Martin and Sammy Davis one.

I've got to admit though the song does stick in your mind.

Looked on the Google but all it says is, He was in "It's that man again" (ITMA) with Tommy Handley, and Much Binding in the Marsh..?

Looked up Jack Jackson I didn't know he was born in Barnsley...

Apparently both were DJ on Radio Luxembourg at one time as well...

Jack Jackson used to have a orchestra at one time, he was a trumpet player himself. He'd play some good stuff on his record programme. It was on his programme I first heard Stan Kenton's 'Peanut Vendor'.

Sam Costa was a singer originally but I'll always remember him on 'Much Binding in the Marsh', his catch phrase, when summoned by Kenneth Horne (as his Commanding Officer), was always 'Good morning sir, was there something?'
