here are a few things i can answer

i want to use it for the following...

intense data input, internet use and DVD authoring

casual gaming, photo editing and regular downloading

i will need a solid keyboard and mouse and at least a full high definition 22 inch monitor, so the computer will naturally need HDMI

i am still undecided on the budget as i am taking each day as it comes with it, but anything with a finance deal would be great

i am not so concerned with the CPU speed but so long as there is plenty of high speed RAM at least 8 gig would do, i would also require lots of USB ports maybe equal USB 2 and 3 ports

i am also keen on my music so good onboard sound will be good enough, i would even pay extra for a high capacity SSD and multi card reader for memory cards

i do not really need software as most of my stuff is freeware anyway, but i do want a system that flies and will perform well under the most demanding of tasks, a nice looking case would be a bonus too, something with good buttons and is very well built

As I've pointed out you need a system with decent cpu, memory and hdd - for hd most onboard gfx will do this these days so you don't really need high end for this and like i said an entry-mid range card will do for what you want.

Unless you plugging your pc into the monitor for speakers then you don't need HDMI input you can just use DVI (yes HDMI is only DVI with audio) as you probably better off just getting a speaker set which includes a sub.

How many different memory card formats are u going to use. Most these days are MicroSD or most products with them in will let you connect to your pc via usb so tbh you don't really need one of these.

As for a case you may have a different opinion to what we say.

Just for starters:

i5-2500K or i7-2600k

16GB Ram - not much more than 8gb these days and will come in handy when multi-tasking

ASUS or Gigabyte P67 board or similar

AMD or Nvidia GFX (£60 card should be suitable if not happy with using onboard)

27" monitor they cheap enough or you could get an lcd/led TV (even cheaper) and plug pc into it

Cases any - I like Antec cases (i currently have a P160, 900 & 1200 and did have the fusion430 for my HTPC till i sold it)

I think Razer and Logitech do the best keyboards but you pay the money for them

Again the same for the mouse

Also Logitech and Creative do good speaker sets

other's will give you ideas and recommendations but you need to make the ultimate choice

I personally favour Logitech over Creative for speakers these days, the Creative equipment I've had in recent years has seemed a little "boomy" for my tastes. Also IMO the gain of a 27" monitor over a 24" is negligible at best and a desk hog at worst - it you're heavily into photo work invest in a decent display with nice, even backlighting. I run a Dell 24" in the office with a 20" HP display for web proofing (Dell is calibrated for print output, HP is not).

+1 for the case, video, processor and memory though. have little experience with Asus but always been happy with Gigabyte and Intel boards. I'm also a sucker for Logitech mice, less so the keyboards however owing to one or two out of box failures - that's horses for courses though, everyone has their preferences regarding input devices.

Also, unless you're wanting to go open source, don't forget to factor in the cost of an x64 edition of Windows 7 to take advantage of the memory.
