choogling   14 #85 Posted November 14, 2011 The Cossack and the one where West 1 is now, was it The Hornblower ?  Is that a gay pub:hihi:
 Share this content via...
anarchist   10 #86 Posted November 14, 2011 Easy. The best pub in Sheffield that closed was The Old Toad/Good Doctor. It was probably the first real ale free house in Sheffield and was closed when they widened St Phillips Road.
 Share this content via...
jake   10 #87 Posted November 14, 2011 Is that a gay pub:hihi:  The Cossack was - despite its name The Hornblower was not - but had a nautical theme and somewhat bizarrely was done up like a ship.. it was a good pub though.. I spent many a weekend night in there
 Share this content via...

It was on Hoyle Street now Netherthorpe Road and was previously " The Talbot " before it was tarted up. St. Phillips Road was around 100 yards further from town. greeni   10 #91 Posted November 14, 2011 I wish I had gone to the Old Toad, just missed it in the 80s. The road it was on is still called Hoyle Street by the way.  What was that real ale pub on the top of Spital Hill in the 90s called? - it had Bar Billiards, and the guy who had it always had classical music playing.... Yog Sothoth   10 #93 Posted November 15, 2011 Oh and the Matilda Tavern. I still don't understand why someone doesn't buy this and reopen it - a stone's throw from the Rutland Arms, surrounded by student flats, overlooking the river - it'd do the business if it joined the real ale circuit! I remember the Marston's beers and the landlord's rather delightful wife.
 Share this content via...
