CorkerSWFC Posted November 10, 2011 Posted November 10, 2011 Theres seems to be some confusion sometimes on what year we the users are speaking about, what are your views on the last 30 years on the Sheffield teams, rather than going too far back. I know a lot are in the prime now on here but we need some more threads on recent times rather than 30-40 years ago. In my opinion Sheff Utd fan's say at 30 years old haven't really got much to grab onto, OK Wednesday got into dire straights but managed to get some fine players and a bit of success for us Owls to remember. What is your moment from the last "few" years what makes the hairs stand up on the back of your head ?
staninoodle Posted November 10, 2011 Posted November 10, 2011 That night in the fritz walter takes some beating,iv german relations, and we all went to the game,i got some right stick. watching the owls away in europe was very special, the result and the manner of it,left me hating euro football. The atmosphere was unreal, and i was surrounded by germans, who by en large were very fair, but gloated in massive proportions.
canadablade Posted November 10, 2011 Posted November 10, 2011 In the last 30 years the Blades have been in 3 Play-off Finals 3 FA Cup Semis Finals a Carling Cup semi Final Had Premiership football and tasted the joys of promotion and the agony of relegation Proper roller coaster ride being a Blade
TAT Posted November 10, 2011 Posted November 10, 2011 Its sad to note in near on 30years we have only gone full circle, 3rd division and back !! The few good times are drowned out by disapointments, but there again we would not be Blades without that trauma, The Man U fans..winning every week !! never experiencing a wet midweek away game in Plymouth, losing 3-0 AND STILL ENJOYING THE "CRACK" ON THE RETURN JOURNEY United are a traditional football club, we have never had the rub of the green, but we just get on with it! How many times can one club get relegated on the last match of the season ? The Porterfield and Bassett eras stand out for me , not the semi finals or play offs, Leicester away, beating man u in the 3rd round of the F.A cup, Deanes performance against Liverpool, Whitehouses Weds double, Bookers goal at QPR. The Brave Mel Rees..so many momments . yes. a full circle roller coaster ride.
web1 Posted November 11, 2011 Posted November 11, 2011 I was never into football until i met me o/h and her dad is a ''massive'' Owls fan, so eventually i got dragged to the matches, and when we had kids he was on hand to make sure they were blue blooded. My point is, having only got into sheffield football since about 97 ish my only stand out moment is the playoff final in cardiff, i missed the ''glory years'' and that is why i never post about the football before that, cos i wasn't there and dont have the pedigree of a lifer so dont feel i have the right to brag about something i wasn't part of or interested in at the time. Hairs on the neck for football moment, The atmosphere in the derby before kickoff. The sheer numbers of fans in Cardiff, not just at the game.
Michael_W Posted November 11, 2011 Posted November 11, 2011 Blimey I can remember a few more than the last 30 years, I remember the 70s when United went up to the old First Division, and Wednesday dropped down to the Third. At the turn of each decade it seems to change in Sheffield, there is a bit of a pattern ....... look at Wednesday, relegated 1970, 1990, 2000 and 2010, promoted 1980 ..... what for 2020 ? I have seen the good the bad and the ugly watching Wednesday and while we have faired marginally better than our near rivals in terms of success, it's not much to brag about. Uniteds best side in my lifetime was the Woodward/Currie era and Wednesday's best side undoubtedly the early 90s team .... both are currently a long way off them ! FA Cup Semi Finals 1983, 1986 and 1993 League Cup finals 1991 and 1993 FA Cup Finals/replay 1993 Play Off Final 2005 Probably enjoyed the Play Off final more than the League Cup win, simply because of the way we won it having gone behind and it's 20 years since the day Sheridan scored at Wembley and my memories fading !

Great post... Was lucky enough that the old man was following the Blades home and away when we had the Woodward / Currie 1970-71 era and went to most of those matches in what was probably the greatest United side we have had or ever will have... There were so many more components to that side though mate as well as the 2 players you mentioned...Badger, Hemsley, Colquhoun, Dearden, Reece, Flynn, Addison, Salmons, Hodgkinson and KING TUDOR who could forget that goal at the Lane Blades up 2-0 owls storm back to 2-2 and THENNNNNNN ----and my memories fading too :hihi:
