spanner1 Posted November 9, 2011 Posted November 9, 2011 My son would like to do a Catering Apprenticeship when he leaves school next year. I have looked at the Sheffield College site which looks good but also Sheaf Training came up, this would be closer to home for him to travel on his college day, but to be honest this is the first I have heard of them. Does anyone have any advice or know of anyone who has attended there and if its any good?
Lady Star Posted November 9, 2011 Posted November 9, 2011 Sheaf Training are one of a great many training providers, but they do do a day release part that training providers generally don't do - Have a look at all the providers who offer this via Connexions - Most of them, you have to get a job (£104 a week I think they pay now) and then the training provider visit you onsite and deliver the training whilst you are at work, and getting paid! I advertised a apprentice chef post this year, but couldn't fill it... I placed my ad on the national apprenticeship website - Had about 6 CVs through, yet not one of them stated any interest in food and cooking... Make sure his CV does, as no point seeing someone who is looking at admin and retail jobs too, as they're not commited and working as a chef requires a lot of commitment! The hours are long and tiring, the job is physically and mentally shattering... It's very rewarding though
