Rich Posted November 8, 2011 Posted November 8, 2011 Topic. As I plan to be a Dad hopefully in the next few years, I'd like to ask if, seeing as I have Asperger's, would my AS be passed onto any child or children that would come from me? Helpful responses only please, don't make me have to ask the Mods for a Dear Forum thread to ask this!
Plain Talker Posted November 8, 2011 Posted November 8, 2011 I do know that the form of autism that my sister and her son have is hereditary, and my cousin's husband and son also share an Autistic Spectrum condition, but the best place to ask about this would be a consultant if you have one, or GP if not.
medusa Posted November 8, 2011 Posted November 8, 2011 I think that you really need to talk to your doctor for this and possibly ask for a referral to a geneticist if further exploration of the genetics surrounding your particular sort of AS. I know that overall a family which has one child on the autistic spectrum is far more likely to have another (compared to a family whose children are NT) but this doesn't imply that you have one of the known genetic forms.
Rich Posted November 8, 2011 Author Posted November 8, 2011 Thanks for the advice, I mean my Parents getting any Grandkid(s) from me might never happen, I'm just trying to plan for any event if it ever does. This'll make you LOL though, I've always said that if I get a Daughter, I want to call her either Wilma or Betty, after the Flintstones! Or if I get a son, I want to call him Bruce, after Bruce Wayne (Batman) or the late great Bruce Lee, Mum says she won't let me call my kids either of those names though, lol. Oh and just to prevent any predictable baiting/trolling on this thread, can you close it please?
duckweed Posted November 8, 2011 Posted November 8, 2011 I think what you call your children is between you and your children. Have you any reason to think your type of autism is hereditary? Have you grandparents or Uncles of aunts or close cousins with it? If not I wouldn't worry.

Well I did have a Great Uncle who showed signs but was never formally diagnosed, he couldn't look after himself, and had next to no social skills, and was basically a cantankerous old coot! He was a funny old bloke though our Les, in his own way.
Grandad.Malky Posted November 8, 2011 Posted November 8, 2011 I think what you call your children is between you and your children. . Since when did children have a say in what they are called its decided between the two parents, all Rich needs to do now is find a partner that likes Batman and the Flintstones.
