lauren84 Posted November 8, 2011 Posted November 8, 2011 It has all changed since I was pregnant with my son and just wondered what they actually did at the 12 week scan appointment at Jessops. Last time they did the dating scan and took a few blood samples for various tests. I have heard now they check something at the baby's neck for downs? Is that correct. I was just wondering how long I could expect to be?

I was just wondering how long I could expect to be? Yeah they look at the fold of skin at the back of the neck as this is a marker for downs. You will also have bloods taken, urine tested and blood pressure done and a quick chat with a midwife. You will probably be there around 40 mins to an hour ish, providing everything runs to time!!
beckysmith18 Posted November 8, 2011 Posted November 8, 2011 Its always hit and miss at Jessops. I was there over 3hrs for my 12wk scan, it was packed and seemed to be running very slowly!
LJB23 Posted November 8, 2011 Posted November 8, 2011 If you can ever get an appointment on a Friday, this seems to be the the day when it's least busy.
lauren84 Posted November 8, 2011 Author Posted November 8, 2011 If you can ever get an appointment on a Friday, this seems to be the the day when it's least busy. I've got it Monday 9.40......... I don't think I've got much chance of being finished and ready to pick little one up from nursery for some reason
j7tdy Posted November 8, 2011 Posted November 8, 2011 My daughter was there well over 3hours for her 12wk scan...take a magazine and a snack, the cafe is way overpriced!
Leah-Lacie Posted November 8, 2011 Posted November 8, 2011 Mine was very quick, can't remember what day, OH laughed at me and said "You said we would be here for ages you idiot!" When I had to go back at 38 weeks, well that was a different story! I was there 2 hours, and everyone else had been there hours too. The notice board stated there was a 2 hour waiting time for midwives or consultants. Then once they see you, they send you back out to wait for someone else, so you can imagine how long it takes!
minxymoo1 Posted January 6, 2012 Posted January 6, 2012 loved calow - everytime i told reception i was there i was directed to waiting area but never got the chance to sit down as a midwife came and got me straight away, its been a fantastic service. as for downs screening - thats up to you if you have it or not x
Kaye2812 Posted January 6, 2012 Posted January 6, 2012 We went for our 12 week scan last week and they couldn't do the nuchal translucency test as the baby was in wrong position, just typical! Unfortunately due to it being over Christmas we couldn't get another scan booked in and it is now too late to have it done so we are having to go for the blood test at 15 weeks instead. We didn't have to wait too long for the scan, our longest wait was for the midwife afterwards. Good luck with everything!
