Antiques anyone??

I've an old-ish silver match holder/striker and been wanting to get it valued. Does anyone recommend any good antique dealers in Sheffield?? I'm not wanting to sell as I'm passing it down to my son.

There's a few antique shops on Abbeydale road, and theirs a big one on Chesterfield road, called Langtons.

They're called vesta cases, my late mother in law used to collect them. Unfortunately there are loads of them around so they don't fetch huge prices.

Has it got the makers mark on it as well as the silver marks - If it's by someone like PS - paul storr you could find the value quite amazing.

The best way to value it is to look on eBay at completed auctions of similar items. Just look up Vesta cases and interpret the hallmark using one of the online identification sites -

I would like to point out that I am not interested in buying this item, I will value on information given as the request wanted. Anyone who states they are going to give a better value without looking at the evidence must be looked at askance. Honesty is my only policy. As for using eBay, this gives a broad guide, but does not make allowances for desirable makers, etc. Anyone who is in the antiques business knows there are four separate prices or valuations for items and if the item is being kept, it would be the insurance value that was needed.
