chem1st Posted November 8, 2011 Posted November 8, 2011 Did anybody watch this? http://www.channel4.com/programmes/hippo-natures-wild-feast A link to the full program... A short bit of footage of vultures eating the carcus. They actually insert themselves into the anal tract of the beast and pick out the meat from the inside. I didn't expect to see that! If I ever go on safari I'll be careful with my drink, don't want to wake up being eaten like that by the wildlife!
Rampent Posted November 8, 2011 Posted November 8, 2011 A whole new meaning to 'bottom feeders' Yikes!!

Rampent Posted November 8, 2011 Posted November 8, 2011 Does anyone want my lamb salad sandwich? 3 notes, you have a deal
MrSmith Posted November 8, 2011 Posted November 8, 2011 Does anyone want my lamb salad sandwich? A two and half million calorie hippo butty is enough for anyone.
Thunzi Posted November 8, 2011 Posted November 8, 2011 They actually insert themselves into the anal tract of the beast and pick out the meat from the inside. I didn't expect to see that! It is quite a common occurrence due to the area being much weaker and easier to rip open than the skin of say the stomach. I saw a wild dog kill happen in action, they chased a kudu for 45 minutes, ran it into an electric fence so it stunned itself, then killed it by going in through there to gut it. Its the same scenario for a lot of animals that don't have the teeth or jaw power for properly penetrative bites.
skinz Posted November 8, 2011 Posted November 8, 2011 a lot of animals that don't have the teeth or jaw power for properly penetrative bites. Try telling that to my present hot little number.
