Shaun_A Posted November 7, 2011 Posted November 7, 2011 I was just wondering when searching on line with google what everyone sees? Say you type in 'a service' (plumber or hairdresser etc etc) sheffield, do you see Google adwords then a map and map listings? Just wondering how far down the free listings are? I have a free listing it's usually No1 but it's no good being No1 if I'm so far down the page when a search term is typed that potential enquiries can't see me. Shaun
XXTickerXX Posted November 8, 2011 Posted November 8, 2011 But you are not no 1 for everyone.Google uses preferred searching. It all goes on you`re personal search history and area. "If you’re signed into a Google Account (whether it be Gmail, Google Reader, Adwords, or any other google service you may use) your search results will be personalised according to your web search history. This is based on websites you’ve visited, past searches you’ve made and the sites you’ve visited from the search results. It also takes in to account what you’ve bookmarked in Google Bookmarks or saved to your iGoogle personalised homepage amoung other factors. Google does this to provide you with more relevant and useful results. If you’re visiting a site or page frequently (your own business for example) you may see an improvement in the positioning of that page in your search results. However, once you sign out of your Google account, the rankings will return to ‘normal’."
XXTickerXX Posted November 8, 2011 Posted November 8, 2011 This is brilliant to explain it and very informative. It checks what computer you are on,what browser you are using to where you are located. There are no "standard" google results anymore. It checks 57 different signals(according to a google engineer)and tailors your results accordingly. http://blog.ted.com/2011/05/02/beware-online-filter-bubbles-eli-pariser-on-ted-com/
Ghozer Posted November 8, 2011 Posted November 8, 2011 There's so many factors involved with Google, not only what XXTickerXX said, but also things like, how fresh and up to date your content is (you should update/edit regular, but not change too much) Site popularity (number of people clicking to and from your site) Links and Link Backs (links to and from your site on other sites) Site Quality (how web and cross-browser compliant it is) doing other things like having site maps, and correct meta tag and robot.txt setups help also... These are all standard SEO practices, do a bit of research into SEO and that will help...
