Tigerfan Posted November 7, 2011 Posted November 7, 2011 Have been told today city taxis are to use meters in saloon cars, I thought only black cabs could use meters in sheffield. City have a major monopoly of taxis in sheffield so is this another way of fleecing the customer with waiting time etc or are they trying to protect the customer and curb overcharging drivers ??
speedy69 Posted November 7, 2011 Posted November 7, 2011 No taxi company is in it to be non profit making!
Darth Vader Posted November 7, 2011 Posted November 7, 2011 It might prove not to be a wise move, as customers tend to associate meters with higher prices.
Tigerfan Posted November 8, 2011 Author Posted November 8, 2011 It might prove not to be a wise move, as customers tend to associate meters with higher prices. My thoughts exactly
XXTickerXX Posted November 8, 2011 Posted November 8, 2011 Talking to my friend about this today,he works for city.He says a lot of the drivers are fuming over it because lets face it,which cab driver declares everything to the taxman. With a meter they(taxman) can track through gps and see all the jobs they have been on. Aside from tax dodging.....i think they have had complaints of overcharging.
kidley Posted November 8, 2011 Posted November 8, 2011 Quite honestly i don't trust some of the meters on the black cabs
zippy Posted November 8, 2011 Posted November 8, 2011 It might prove not to be a wise move, as customers tend to associate meters with higher prices. customers associate meters with transparent pricing ...
Scratch22 Posted November 8, 2011 Posted November 8, 2011 taxis without meters in sheffield are constantly better value than those with meters, looks like ill be ringing mercury in future

WallBuilder Posted November 8, 2011 Posted November 8, 2011 I use the firm maybe once a month on one particular journey so know the fare off by heart and it's been the same for about the last year. I'm going to be very interested to see if anything changes price wise as I'll be doing the journey later this month.
