The problems started at the High Greave when they started to make it a ticket event to enter on New Years Eve, NYE on 1999 been the kick start to it all, but that was a one off. Regulars that go in all year round where getting very very ****** off at having to get a ticket ( can't remember if the was also a £5 cover charge as well ) to go into their local every year on NYE. Another thing and the main reason i think for the pubs problems and was annoying the regulars was that the ' best side ' of the pub at weekends was been hired out for parties and events and the regular punters that kept the pub going all year round where in effect getting banned at the weekend. In the week the tap side was fine when popping in for a drink but at the weekends I know a lot wanted to go into the best side.

The place has slowly been going downhill you could go in at the weekends and the place would be ghost town, it was only a matter of when not if the pub would close. Shame really but the blame lies totally with Jeannie and Dave.

Sorry at a loss as to why people who were quite happy in tap room in the week wanted to go in best side at weekends:huh: Plus if Jeannei and Dave have kept it going since 1999 they must have got something right

if the regulars were gettin miffed at payin a fiver on new years eve for the ticket which incidently got you a pint at the bar & paid for a buffet for all those who went in on the night, then why was it always full of regulars plus a few more? i know many of the regulars there & have done for many many years, not once have i heard them being miffed about not going in the best side, in fact you'll find most of the weekends if there wasnt a party on then jeannie & dave provided karaoke which all the regulars had a go at along with any passing punters. they wouldnt have lasted as long as they did if they were to blame as you say, well i'll tell you now you cant blame them at all, youre best off looking at the management company which is ruining many of the pubs theyve bought!

I think most of the regulars would pop into the tap side during the week after work for a few drinks but at the weekends wanted something a little more smarter shall we say and went into the other side. Not saying that the best side didn't get used during the week and the tap side used during the weekend Because they where.

Yes they had been keeping the pub going for years but the problems where not

instant and boom it was a very slow and drawn out process but got worse and worse over the last few years.

But that fact was they where ******* off the regulars, the people that keep the place going all year round. My parents just live round the corner from the Greave and they stopped going in regular about 18 months ago.

WRONG....the ticket scheme was to keep out the unwanted on new years eve (once a year drinkers,****** up idiots ect ect) just so the regulars were guaranteed a place and none of the regulars actually paid to get in,the 'tickets' were non existant to regulars, and as for the parties they were very rare, unless jeannie knew who's party it was then it was unlikely she would agree to it.

And to suggest the regulars would get banned at the weekend is bang out of order, the regulars kept the place going and if there was a party in the lounge then its ten to a penny the regulars knew who's party it was and would join in the party

The place isnt becoming a funeral parlour as such,it is to be a meeting place for people before they go to the funeral (got it on good authority),there were 3 other bids who wanted to keep the place as a pub but the people who have it now paid over the asking price and brewery grabbed it, and as for the pub itself it was a cracking little pub with some bloody good punters and damned good bar staff ;)

Its downfall started when a bunch of regulars followed a certain crowd when the malthouse re-opened after refurbishment (not blaming them),plus the brewery seriously didnt help regarding ground rent and beer prices,as any regular will tell you jeannie always left it as late as she could before applying the increase in price.

Miss a hell of a lot of punters from there, even the coffin dodgers playing cribb on a friday night

Jeannie has a new pub now Crown Inn at ellsecar
