suenjill Posted November 8, 2011 Posted November 8, 2011 Oh yes I remember malt, my mam used to give it to me on a spoon horible stuff. Mam told me it would make me grow ????? still only got to 5.2, I was fooled. Ha! good old days
gadget_man Posted November 8, 2011 Posted November 8, 2011 We used to collect Malt, Cod liver oil and Orange from the Clinic at Manor Top, For some reason we had to pay in stamps which included then a walk to Intake Post Office. A long walk there and back from Arbourthorne Rd for 2 young girls, I never fathomed out why the stamps. Wasn't there also National dried Milk in large tins. hazel Nice word fathomed prob spelt wrong. I had the lot as a child from the clinic underneath prince edwards school at manor top,i hated malt at first but grew to love it,i also had to go there for [sUNRAY]treatment where me and my mum would sit in front of a large ,sunlamp with our eyes protected for about 15 minutes -all to do with being a weak undernourished child and it certainly worked, We also used to go to the dentist there-sprung metal clamp to force your mouth open, and then the dreaded GAS MASK .
hazel Posted November 8, 2011 Posted November 8, 2011 I went for Sunray treatment with my Mom and Sister wasn't me in need but I think it worked on me by delayed reaction, 70 yrs later. I also went to the same dentist where I ran round the room-- no could catch me so I was taken home in disgrace. My Sister and me dropped a large bottle of malt in the middle of the road and fled- leaving a sticky mess, luckly there were very few cars then. hazel
SILLY Posted November 9, 2011 Posted November 9, 2011 Oh yes I went to that dentist as well I remember they couldn't get the chair up high enough then put the mask over my face and held me down!! Next thing I was surrounded by lots of sinks and kids spitting up blood. After that I never took the note saying that I had to go to the dentist home. It was only when I started work that my faith in dentists was restored.

Sounds just like the dentist i went to, it was a husband and wife team, the surgery was a house on Burgreave rd , i should have known by the look of the house what to expect, they didn't give me enough gas, i woke up and ran around the room half asleep when i came too fully, they were both stood there with blood down the front of them, they looked scared to death

hazel Posted November 9, 2011 Posted November 9, 2011 Never had any of that vile stuff pass my lips since being force fed it when young. My Mom was also keen on giving us Brimstone and Treacle don't remember what it cured. hazel
