love_rat Posted November 5, 2011 Posted November 5, 2011 Details here: http://www.direct.gov.uk/en/disabledpeople/motoringandtransport/dg_4001061 I guess they need to raise funds to catch the ever increasing number of people who abuse the scheme. The able bodied people who park in disabled car parking spaces, or able bodied people who borrow a badge to park where they like
HeadingNorth Posted November 5, 2011 Posted November 5, 2011 I wonder if Sheffield Council will raise theirs to the maximum - or indeed, at all?
bullerboY Posted November 5, 2011 Posted November 5, 2011 Thats another £8 more out of some peoples pension that are struggling to make ends meet.
HeadingNorth Posted November 5, 2011 Posted November 5, 2011 Thats another £8 more out of some peoples pension that are struggling to make ends meet. Anyone of pensionable age cannot be struggling to make ends meet. They have a minimum income of at least £130 a week and wouldn't even have to find rent or mortgage costs, nor council tax, if that were all they had.
spiritangel1 Posted November 5, 2011 Posted November 5, 2011 It works out at about 19pence a day so why should it make people hard up???
Ms Macbeth Posted November 5, 2011 Posted November 5, 2011 Thats another £8 more out of some peoples pension that are struggling to make ends meet. Blue badges are issued to young people too, depending on their mobility needs. Just being a pensioner isn't a reason to have one. I wish councils would take steps to ensure they aren't abused by the non-disabled. I don't think charging £10 will make much difference to that aspect. For instance, elderly lady goes shopping once a week, 'carer' uses badge every day to park free. It is unfair, and prevents the genuinely disabled from parking where they need to. When did we turn into a nation of 'me firsts'?
bullerboY Posted November 5, 2011 Posted November 5, 2011 Well, think of the percentage it has risen by and would you like your wages to decrease by this amount. The carer cannot use the badge unless the lady is with her.Yes I do wish the councils would crack down harder with heavier penalties.Just wait while some of you get your pension then you may appreciate other peoples circumstances.
Resident Posted November 5, 2011 Posted November 5, 2011 Tougher penalties are what's needed. Rather than fines and revokation of the blue badge. Seize the offender's vehicle.
HeadingNorth Posted November 5, 2011 Posted November 5, 2011 Tougher penalties are what's needed. It hardly matters what the penalties are, while there is insufficient enforcement.
