If the Lib Dems had put election promises before power, and made intelligent use of the fantastic chance they had, the public would have handed them AV on a plate. They have no one else to blame. People have more respect for Simon Cowell than Nick Clegg.

So out of petty mindedness and so people could stick 2 fingers up to Clegg they opted out of changing the system.

Talk about cutting your nose off to spite your face.

So are you happy for... Wars to be paid for with your tax money while the poorest in our society get poorer. Banks to be bailed out and the debt transferred to the people... the 1% continue to get richer while people are loosing their homes. The richest people and companies in our country not paying their share of tax.

It doesn't really bother me but if it did, I would have the democratic choice of voting out the party who was doing this at the next election.

Perhaps more that people were able to make a more informed choice when they realised what the party that would stand to benefit the most really stood for in government.

Oh right unlike the current system which is more geared for 2 party elections.

We could have a referendum on most things the protesters claim to want and I bet half the country wouldn't even bother to vote.

Thanks for speaking for me Halibut, but if you're so passionate about the Occupy movement, why aren't you out there in your tent showing your solidarity with your comrades instead of posting on here from the comfort of your nice warm bedsit?

Otherwise, people might be forgiven for thinking you were a cowardly keyboard warrior who doesn't have the bottle to stand up for what he believes in, mightn't they?

And why should they be bothered? Under Labour the gap between the richest and poorest did not lessen one bit - it grew. Admittedly, the situation has grown even more grotesque over the last couple of years, but it appears none of our politicians have what it takes to make any difference. The 1% control the show.

Only cretins would think that Ricky - and who cares what they think?

(Nice bedsit joke though - 6.5/10)

So you don't have the courage to actually make a stand for what you believe in?

Occupy Sheffield stands together with occupations all over the world; we are the 99%. We are a peaceful non-hierarchical forum. We're in agreement that the current system is undemocratic and unjust. We need alternatives; you are invited to join us in debate and developing them; to create a better future for everyone.

erm, I think you'll find that you are the 0.00000001% (maybe).

The Occupy movement appears to believe it speaks for 99% of the country with no major backing or public remit to do so. Were you democratically elected? nope. You also seem to think a democratic country, with elected representatives is undemocratic.

What in reality you seem to be suggesting is that the country be run along the Occupy lines as a fascist state. Where people have to believe in what you believe in or they are wrong.

whatever the vast problems with this country, you are going about it in a wrong-headed, totally ineffectual (and probably counter-productive) way. Stop saying you are the 99%. You clearly aren't.

1% do NOT own 99% of the world's resources. That figure was referring to the United States, not the whole world. The world is made up of over 196 countries with different levels of wealth distribution and freedoms and cultures. It is not even true about the USA, however it is true to say that the wealthiest 1% of Americans pay the majority of all the tax. There is no conspiracy of rich people all working to keep wealth away from the majority. There is just a society of people working and trying to succeed and create and innovate, and then there's the protesters who just sit around complaining that someone else is making their life hard. Pack up the tents, start a business or get a job.
