princess01 Posted November 3, 2011 Posted November 3, 2011 My little boy has just started nursery school in the afternoon's. My currant job will not let me change my hours to suit with the school times, so i am having to leave. I've thought about childminders and family but as my little boy has learning difficulites he does not like change and i would no put it upon another person to go though his tempers he sometimes has. To get back to the point. . .. . . i am looking for a little partime job whilst he is at school, just so i'm not unemployed, but there's nothing out there unless it's evening work.... does anyone know where i can look to find jobs like these?

Claim Income Support or JSA while you look and get help from the Job Centre. Benefits will depend on any partner's income and your savings, but the staff will give you some help. If you can't get benefits you may get your stamp paid. Was your currant job in a bakery?
Plain Talker Posted November 3, 2011 Posted November 3, 2011 I thought the law allowed emlployees some flexibility when you had parental responsibilities? That's not fair!
big_g Posted November 3, 2011 Posted November 3, 2011 I thought the law allowed emlployees some flexibility when you had parental responsibilities? That's not fair! I was under this impression too. What are your current hours and what are you wanting to change to? I seem to remember that an employer has to consider flexible working if at all possible if you have a child under a certain age (not sure of the age - used to be five but went up).
Plain Talker Posted November 3, 2011 Posted November 3, 2011 I just noticed I can't spell employees! Oops!
Badgerramble Posted November 3, 2011 Posted November 3, 2011 You have the statutory right to ask for flexible working Link to Direct Gov : http://www.direct.gov.uk/en/Diol1/EmploymentDecisionTrees/WorkingPatterns/right_to_flexible_working.dsb?DPF0=0-1-0-0-0-0-&DPF1=0&vgsubmit=%C2%A0+Next%C2%A0+ What reason did you employer give for turning you down?
princess01 Posted November 3, 2011 Author Posted November 3, 2011 i was employed to work 9-1, and i would like to change to 9-12, i work in creche/nursery so i can bring him to work with me which i do now, then leave at 12 to get him home have some lunch and take him to school at 12.50. i wasn'nt aware of the flexable hours things will employers. i dont think it's to much to ask the creche closes at 12pm and i only do the extra hour in the nursery to cover dinners!
garrence Posted November 3, 2011 Posted November 3, 2011 I assume you asked verbally. It may be that they will be a bit more flexible when the request is made in a more "official" manner. Put your request in writing to your employer. Include a reference to the flexible working legislation. Ask that they make their reply in writing.
