Throw away society - wipes for everything

Recommended Posts

Nowadays there are wipes for everything, not just face cleansing and baby wipes but wipes for cleaning the bathroom, kitchen, toilet, duster and polish wipes, floor wipes, window wipes, leather wipes, the list goes on.

Are you a wipes convert or do you remain loyal to your dusters and dishcloths?

Ten dishcloths for a quid for wiping and dusting. Then they get demoted to floor duty. Lasts me about two weeks. And I use bicarbonate of soda, vinegar, lemon juice and salt to make my own cleaning solutions.

Wipes are generally sold to hygiene freaks. A wipe won't do anything a cloth or duster can't. They're a great way of wasting money.

The only kind I occasionally use are babywipes, which can be pretty useful if you're travelling long distance for keeping clean when you've no access to water.

I must confess I do like those Parazone wipes you use to clean the toilet with, I tend to spray & tinkle. One wipe & you're done! I dunno, the thought of having a loppy cloth to clean urine stains with in a plastic container by the bog makes me gip.

Urine is sterile.

The only wipes I use are cleaning wipes for the work surfaces, floor wipes, stainless steel cleaning wipes, microwave wipes and wipes for the fridge. I also use hand cleansing wipes and wipes for cleaning electrical equipment and screens.

I buy wipes for when we go on holiday to keep the kitchen and bathrooms clean, but when we're home I'd rather use a decent cleaning product and a cloth. Taking wipes on holiday just prevents stuff getting spoiled by the bottles of cleaner spilling.

Generally speaking I think that the amount of wipes which aren't easily biodegradable is quite astonishing. Cotton cloths can be used for years and when they're really too worn to be used any more then they're biodegradable- if it's not broken then don't try to fix it.
