Gormenghast Posted November 2, 2011 Posted November 2, 2011 Why do all the newsreaders have to wear a poppy in their lapels at this time of year? What does it mean? Not a great deal to the population today I imagine. It's 2011, and the two world wars were over long ago.
MrMoran Posted November 2, 2011 Posted November 2, 2011 If you dont know what it means there is little point in telling you.

Andy Posted November 2, 2011 Posted November 2, 2011 Probably the same reason most adults do. Poppies are not just for the two world wars.

What I want to know is where to buy one of the poppies they wear because my other half wants one.

I personally don't choose to wear a poppy, but i still remember those that died in the war...and i do all year round not just in november but the point you made which i have highlighted. . . surely if people wear them then it is passing on the message to younger generations so they will remember and do the same
MrMoran Posted November 2, 2011 Posted November 2, 2011 Probably the same reason most adults do. Poppies are not just for the two world wars. Good point. They are for one world cup too. Doodah! Or am i getting a little confused?

But what was going on, on the Strictly Come Dancing programme tonight where they were wearing SPARKLY poppies???? They were using them, in my opinion, as fashion accessories. What does that say about their memory of people who died????

The very fact that you can sit at your computer and freely air your views without fear of arrest or censorship is due to the sacrifices of millions of men who gave up their freedom and joined armies to fight against tyrants. If you dont think they're worth a day of rememberance once a year and a bit of money raised to help their families then you'ra a pathetic soul indeed.
