ladyB Posted November 2, 2011 Author Posted November 2, 2011 How did you manage to find good socialisation opportunities like that? We don't see too many other dogs and when we do they're normally too nice to tell her off or the owner (understandably!) just wants to get away from us as fast as possible... Know that feeling. where I walk some owners do a 180 v v fast!!!

There is normally quite a few people who are in the same situation I also used to go to a trainer that does socialisation walks with aggressive dogs (over in Barnsley) and when he was good enough and safe enough I took his on walks with people off here on the condition dogs that could possibily bite (know to) were muzzled. I then used to go to the people and dogs walks run by a Sheffield dog trainer for better natured dogs (which D was classed as!) and have gone to agility for over 2 years now which is fab for training as they have to get used to fast moving excited dogs runing around. I'm always happy to meet up, D is funny with lurchers, he really wants to join in but has to give up eventualy as they are too fast for him so they run in big circles and he runs in small ones when playing chase/ follow. He never holds a grudge either which is good
ladyB Posted November 2, 2011 Author Posted November 2, 2011 I am always happy to meet up with any kind of dog!!!! D sounds like the Lab who is Molls best friend.... he has given up on the big circles but he tries to cut her off and makes her run in smaller circles!! lol... he sits and waits for her to run past then makes his move...LOL...cuts her off as she runs past!! they roll, they both ra ra ra and then she does it again!! It's soo funny!! He totally adores her her!! if she goes off on a sniff he sits and wathches where she goes..When he gets out off the car his owner tells me she has to drag away from the car park because thats where we usually meet!! she is not all bad but she is soooo bloody frustrating!!!
Lotti Posted November 2, 2011 Posted November 2, 2011 Honestly woman! I've TOLD you... come out for some walks with us! You fret far too much, that's Moll's only problem. You need your confidence boosting and to chill out. Give me a ring! (Now now though... going to bed!) And... go for some walks with Anna Book her when you're available to go for a walk, and tag along. Walk with her but pretend Molly is all hers. Watch how Anna deals with her, you may learn a lot
Moonbird Posted November 2, 2011 Posted November 2, 2011 Think that I met Molly once walking with Anna and lots of other doggies, she was absolutely fine with mine no problem at all, I meant to mention it ages ago but kept forgetting, she is a lovely dog

I love it whe he tries to get them to chase at it only lasts 20 seconds before they overtake him! I think the noise can sometimes put other dog owners off too, D is generally quiet but is another dog is vocal he does a funny ra ra sound too, almost like big breathes out in rythmn to the bounding!

He never holds a grudge either which is good Can you let me know the details of the trainer that does socialisation walks please? I'm sure I looked at that 'people and dogs' thing when I was looking (unsuccessfully) for a dog walking group in Sheffield but looked like there were hardly any walks listed and it struck me as being a bit snobby? I'm only available at weekends I'm afraid but definitely would like to meet up with anyone who doesn't mind a 'gobby bitch'! I think the other problem is when she barks at other dogs, they sometimes chase her away... unfortunately that seems to be exactly what she wants, to her that's a brilliant game! So she's learned hey, if I run over there and bark in their face, they'll play chase with me!
bogwoppit Posted November 3, 2011 Posted November 3, 2011 I am running out to uni so just a quickie. I too have similar problems with Gruffler. He is getting better but it's a case of needing more dogs/owners who don't baulk at the sight of a muzzle. I am in Heeley, totally up for walks and can travel. I also have a labrador/lurcher type girl who is good for playing most of the time
Lotti Posted November 3, 2011 Posted November 3, 2011 Haha vwkittie, Takara will warn off dogs that bounce in her face, but if they bark at her, she usually just stands there and looks the other way instead of warning or chasing them off. Unfortunately, she's not at all confident enough to be a stooge dog... even though she wouldn't give your dog what she wants, it would put her back so much Otherwise I'd have offered. Bubble is deaf, so barking won't affect her at all, but she will probably just play... Bubble and Beans I'm more than happy to take out with pretty much anyone... it's just Takara that's too nervous.
