photodrew Posted November 2, 2011 Posted November 2, 2011 anyone know if you can connect a nikon d7000 to a mac using a firewire cable? If not I know you can use straight USB but is there a fast data alternative!?
karl101 Posted November 2, 2011 Posted November 2, 2011 Looking at the specification, I would say no. A USB card reader, something such as this: http://www.play.com/Electronics/Electronics/4-/15175869/Kingston-USB-2-0-Hi-Speed-19-in-1-Card-Reader/Product.html may be a little quicker than that in the camera. jezzyjj Posted November 4, 2011 Posted November 4, 2011 USB card readers are much slower than FW 800 readers. I can transfer data at 55MB/s with my Hoodman FW card reader, that's not far off internal HD to HD speed. 25MB/s is fastes I've seen with USB and it's usually more like 5-10MB/s

But searching google they now appear to be rarer than hens teeth. There are many all in one units that fit in a 5.25" drive bay, with a firewire port, but they all use USB for the card reader. K.
photodrew Posted November 4, 2011 Author Posted November 4, 2011 reason I asked is more for tethered live capture to programs such as Light Room. Anyone know of a cable that can suffice?
karl101 Posted November 4, 2011 Posted November 4, 2011 Your camera does not have a firewire port, therefore you cannot use firewire. You could try a wi-fi sd card: http://www.amazon.co.uk/Eye-Fi-Wireless-SDHC-Memory-Card/dp/B003E47XJ0 No idea if it'll do what you want though. K.

They do seem to have vanished, even the one I have has been replaced by a USB 3.0 variant.
