SamMT Posted October 31, 2011 Posted October 31, 2011 Sick of cat poo all over the garden & need to stop it! We would like to make an outdoor litter tray or litter house but wondering about what sort of litter to use? If it is very well enclosed we could use standard indoor litter i guess but looking for alternative hard wearing suggestions or tips from anyone who has outdoor litter areas? I don't anticipate it being difficult to train her to use it as we have flexible gating we can put around a yard area for a while where there is nowhere else suitable to dig. Appreciate advice thank you :-)
mc55 Posted October 31, 2011 Posted October 31, 2011 mmm we wondered about this too. We thought about a 'pit' lined with gravel and then a lot of building sand on top. It might help if it has some screening too - Loki seems to prefer to go behind our plants
Plain Talker Posted October 31, 2011 Posted October 31, 2011 you may find that all the neighbourhood cats want to use it, too, which might upset the resident cat(s).

One reason to make it small perhaps. I may just try the existing cat litter box outside with some gravel and sand in it and see how that goes.
