lauren84 Posted October 31, 2011 Posted October 31, 2011 My little boy wouldn't go on the potty/toilet either and I was getting worried on the run up to his third birthday for nursery reasons too. I can't offer any advice as I do not know why but something just clicked in his head and he began to want to use it all by himself and within a week he was dry throughout the day and it wasn't long after the same at night! All I did was just leave the potty around, dress your child in easy to pull up/down clothing or just pants or naked from waist down (my lo wouldn't wear pants for a while) and let her get used to it being around but without any pressure. If she just wants to carry it around or something for a bit let her. The thing about potty training is that you can't 'force' them and you can't encourage too much unless there is some willingness to try there already. Good luck and I am sure everything will be fine!
kirstyp86 Posted October 31, 2011 Posted October 31, 2011 I potty trained my little boy at 2 & 3months old and I made a reward chart. Everytime he did a wee or poo on the potty, we would both draw a smiley face on the chart. We told him that when the chart was full (which was a week's worth) he could choose a new toy for being such a big boy. It worked wonders. We had only a few accidents that week as he was determined to get a new toy!! After a few weeks using the potty, he decided he wanted to use the big toilet instead. He was still having accidents at night for about another 6months, but eventually he stopped having accidents at night too. Good Luck
vicxxx Posted October 31, 2011 Posted October 31, 2011 we potty trained our eldest a few weeks as i was getting worried about him going nursery still in nappies at 3. we used a reward chart and used mr.tumble stickers (from the magazine) as they love him and it worked, we didnt put pressure on him and we went at his pace and it worked he was trained within a week and dry through the night after a week of wearing pull ups. i think the main thing is let them decide when they feel ready it made us relax too and also its helped my middle son as he will be 2 in march and already showing signs to potty train. Good luck x
Strix Posted October 31, 2011 Posted October 31, 2011 H is nineteen months. I decided we'd introduce the idea of the potty as she's the kind of kid who gets very set ideas, so I didn't want the transition out of nappies to be a wrangle The first couple of times she sat on it, she was still wearing her nappy, but I could tell she'd been as her nappy was hot and squelchy. I put her on it when she wakes up of a morning with good results, and she sits on it during nappy changing. She's asking more frequently to go on it of her own accord. She still won't poo on it though

He liked the potty behind the sofa where you couldn't see him and we couldn't watch until he had finished. There is something she is thinking about stopping her I think and once she figures it out she will be well away. Strix, my son hated 'pooing' on the potty and would only do it once his nappy was back on. He was sorted once he was on the proper toilet

It's probably helpful to install the potty in the bathroom, and you both 'go' together. If kids don't see you doing things, they'll think they're not normal

He wees standing up most of the time after seeing his daddy do it.....although it was a bit offputting for my husband when he more or less stuck his face in the flow I can't do anything in the bathroom without a little spectator so it was only fair he had his turn
Strix Posted November 1, 2011 Posted November 1, 2011 Yeerrrssss, hmmmmm. After muscling her way in on her dad, young H thought it'd be a good idea to stand up off her potty, lean against the toilet and thrust her hips forwards to wee She learned pretty quickly that little girls just get wet legs and socks (and a cross mum! ) doing that
