And i was in this morning and all i saw that was bit unusual was the lad who dresses up as a referee giving all and sundry a red card,

Pure harmless free entertainment!

Have you seen the bloke walking round town with multicoloured dreadlocks and dayglo green stockings and a white skirt and top.Creased me up last week, you cant beat an eccentric for a laugh.Looks like madonna with a tash.

You see BOOZERS around Bargain Booze and stood outside the Bankers Draft well i never what ever next .

P.S. You are not allowed to drink outside the Bankers Draft.

I'm not sure about your morals, but I don't find it to be acceptable to b drunk in the middle of the day just because a place sells beer

You better move to the country then fella. If you think this only happens in Sheffield, you are sorely deluded.

Sheffield City centre is too spread out.

It was "too spread out" in the 50s, 60s, 70s, 80s, 90s etc. as well.

Over the years the council has not had the best attitude to both shops (too high rates) and cars, which doubtless has taken its toll.

Internet shopping isn't helping either. I rarely go into town, maybe once a fortnight (or less). I can buy what I want from the internet at cheaper prices, so why go into town at all?

High inflation (thank you Mervyn King) is also eating away at people's discretionary spending.

Below inflation wage increases are making people poorer.

The credit crunch means that people can't buy imported Chinese made tat and stick it on the never never.

There are lots of reasons.

Sheffield City centre is too spread out. From the Haymarket , up to M & S, then down The Moor, it is not condensed like other cities and towns I have been to.

That just means people are too lazy to walk. It is not too spread out at all. I can cover it all in an hour, or in 3 hours, depending on my mood. Either way i will not be stuffed in a marbled conveyor belt with each store duplicated 5 times over.

I appreciate that but I still like to avoid these people, as well as parking costs by shopping at meadowhall

...but Leeds/ Manchester etc aren't famed for their cheap parking or their "cheaper than Internet" products, the same could be said of any city.

The cost of parking has definitely contributed to the demise of Sheffield centre.

Why would any one want to pay £1.70 an hour in Sheffield centre, when it’s free at Meadowhall all day?

You can get city centre parking a lot cheaper than that in Sheffield. £3.50 all day in some places.

It is also the same old boring recycled shops.

I am starting to like Rotherham again, they are sprucing up the town centre, and all new local independant shops are taking up residence, with the major high-street retailers that you see all over the UK moving to either Meadowhall and/or Parkgate.

Sheffield city centre is just awful at the moment, and it makes me discusted to think I am from and still live in Sheffield, when you go into town, especially down by Castle Market or even The Moor. It's only really Fargate that is decent and most of the shops on there are crap anyway!

Doncaster is pretty good for shopping and is probably the best location around here, closely followed by Huddersfield.

Rotherham is a hole, it always has been and it always will be

You certainly can park a lot cheaper in other places. When I go to Huddersfield it's 5 hours parking for 2.50 and it takes me all five hours to go round the market and the city centre there because it is infinitely better for shopping than Sheffield's.
