So Sheffield City Centre is HISTORY??

That depends on if you stick your face down the urinal in the toilets i suppose. The only smell from the market area was of meat and fish.

Try going up a level. That place is truly disgusting. Its like victorian times when people used to empty their chamber pots into the street. The sooner that hole is demolished, the better. Bring on the new Moor Village:gag:

So you're talking about the Gallery then and not the Castle market at all?

You mustn't be looking hard. I've never been to the Moor without seeing people walking around with cans of Special Brew. Fargate always has its fair share too. Around Division Street area I always encounter a couple of them sat on the Walls around The Forum and they also congregate around Bargain Booze at the top of West Street. The area around The Bankers Draft goes without saying

You see BOOZERS around Bargain Booze and stood outside the Bankers Draft well i never what ever next .

P.S. You are not allowed to drink outside the Bankers Draft.

Neither do i. I was in Castle market yesterday morning and it was rammed with people. I didn't see anyone drunk or drugged up either. Shocker!

And i was in this morning and all i saw that was bit unusual was the lad who dresses up as a referee giving all and sundry a red card,

Pure harmless free entertainment!

There are loads of posts about how poor Sheffield has become, but WHO is to blame?? Meadowhall is No 1 suspect

I don't think so, shops had started closing before Meadowhall was built, there used to be loads of small independent shops in town, but they just couldn't afford to say open I suppose and started closing, once that happened people stopped coming to town and that reduced the number of people to keep the other shops going, it's like a vicious circle.

There used to be shops on West Street, but now they are all bars, there used to be shops down the side of the peace gardens, now it's bars and coffee shops, there used to be decent shops on Chapel Walk and Cambridge Street. What hasn't turned into a phone shop or coffee shop has become a bank, at the top of Fargate there are 3 massive banks, in 3 of the most prominent buildings, that's a waste of retail space.

The unique small shops that closed in town haven't been replaced by ones at Meadowhall, they have just vanished.

But how strong was the smell of urine?

Its everywhere in the Market love, people just drop there pants and wee, wee, just where they happen to be standing. Some even do it from the top of the stairwells just to spread it about a little bit this improves the aroma no end and adds to the ambiance.

This has got to be true because wee ,wee, artists similar to you are always pointing this out to the rest of us.

I saw him as well. It looked like one of the fruit stall holders was making him a brew. I often wonder if he gets cold wearing those shorts.

Probably the saddest part of the decline in the city center. There is no way small shop owners like that could afford the astronomical rents in Meadowhell.

Of course, a lot of Sheffielders on this thread have pointed out that the city centre doesn't sell things cheaper than websites (because we are always focussed on cost, cost and cost).

But thats the case for any city centre. London is always busy, and there aren't any bargains to be had there. Same with Leeds/ Manchester etc - city centres will always be more expensive than the cheapest websites, but some people pay for quality/ service/ convenience...

It is also the same old boring recycled shops.

I am starting to like Rotherham again, they are sprucing up the town centre, and all new local independant shops are taking up residence, with the major high-street retailers that you see all over the UK moving to either Meadowhall and/or Parkgate.

Sheffield city centre is just awful at the moment, and it makes me discusted to think I am from and still live in Sheffield, when you go into town, especially down by Castle Market or even The Moor. It's only really Fargate that is decent and most of the shops on there are crap anyway!

Doncaster is pretty good for shopping and is probably the best location around here, closely followed by Huddersfield.

I go to huddersfield all the time, ill be going there tomorrow to do some early christmas shopping.
