So Sheffield City Centre is HISTORY??

There is a lot of Meadowhall slagging on this thread, in my opinion, it is the best thing that ever happened to Sheffield.

If it was up to some people we would still be wandering round the same old shops, selling the same old tat in Sheffield City centre. I now go to Sheffield twice a year, once will be on sunday for 'fright night' the next time will be to see the sheffield Christmas lights switched on (and that's only to make the kids happy)

Town centre shopping is DEAD, long live the shopping Mall.

Yes, the xmas lights were the highlight of Sheffield, but thats really only for one visit a year. The rest, is as has been said, full of tat shops and potato meals. Very poor indeeeeeed!

Meadowhall is great, it keeps the riff-raff out of the city centre, in the way that Players Bar is the best think to happen on West Street as it leaves the other pubs for decent people

Not sure about that. Meadowhall isn't exactly classy clientele but last time I checked the town centre in the day time was just drunks, drug addicts and down-and-outs.

I agree that Sheffield Town Centre is embarrassing for such a big city in terms of shopping and attractions. But then again, Sheffield has never been considered alongside the likes of Manchester, Liverpool, Birmingham, or even Leeds or Newcastle. Something went wrong somewhere along the line in terms of Sheffield's appeal to tourists

i dont find the shops to spread out, i dont go into town because of the parking personally but thats just me

Me too, I was in town for 2 hours and 5 mins and got charged £6.50 to park!!!!! There was literally no point in even going as the toy i was returning was only £5.99 yet it cost me more than this just to park nevermind petrol to get there....other than the parking charges though i do prefer town to meadowhell :hihi:

Maybe if Sheffield had free parking, more people would visit the tat shops and watch the drunks knowing they didnt have to pay to park up

You mustn't be looking hard. I've never been to the Moor without seeing people walking around with cans of Special Brew. Fargate always has its fair share too. Around Division Street area I always encounter a couple of them sat on the Walls around The Forum and they also congregate around Bargain Booze at the top of West Street. The area around The Bankers Draft goes without saying

The cost of parking has definitely contributed to the demise of Sheffield centre.

Why would any one want to pay £1.70 an hour in Sheffield centre, when it’s free at Meadowhall all day?

Very true. Because of this, we must all take the blame for Sheffields demise. Shame really, as Meadowhell is a bit overcrowded on a Sat, and it would be good if the range of shops were in town but that cant happen, so its just a downward spiral for Sheffield. The new plans for the Moor markets look exciting, but will in happen or will SCC say we have ran out of money? Who knows:huh:
