No, I was just wonderin if it was true because you would think allowing people to keep fish would have a big impact on a pond fishery,

I don't think there are many fresh water fish worth eating though. I know the Carp was bread by monks as a part of their staple diet but i wouldn't fancy eating one out of Crooks any time soon :gag:

Thinking of going on Friday, is it fishing well for the time of year? And please can someone give my advice on where to fish, bait, method for the time of year, also what fish are in there,

Found this in another topic

the lake contains some highly intelligent homicidal fish created by accident when an experiment in the university's genetics department went wrong.

be careful how you fish there, what you catch may eat you!

Please can someone explain this in more detail, and can you eat what u catch?

Cheers

I read somewhere that the Uni released several small Wels catfish into the lake back in the seventies- Police divers came face to face with them and scared them half to death as they had grown somewhat!!!

Biggsy :)

Just because someone says " I've seen it " is not proof. I still don't believe it.
thank you mate my words exact, same has there is no 30's in there i have had about 3 30lb fish from this country and a good few from abroad.I have seen fish that are in the lower to middle 30lb range in crooks, but some of the anglers on here think if they fished it a few times and not caught them there not in there.pmsl, this year im gonna prove there is a 30 in there gonna hit crooks hard till i at least have the two large commons that ive seen.took me 11 month to prove that the common in plumpers was 30lb but i did that task in october.

Was this half a dozen Catfish?

Who stocked these fish? not the Sheffield council I'll wager.

If this is Cats & they've been in for 20yrs I wonder what they survive on. Surely 6 fish of this species would have run out of prey fish in such a confined space as deep as it is.

Dn't know if you have ever fished bradleys pond but that is like a puddle theres two in there one of them is in the 40lb range

No I haven't fished here but to me the issue is not that it's a small venue it's the fact that Bradley's is on the whole a commercial fishery.

As KJS at Aston, also a venue with a couple of Catfish the biggest last year was out at 38lb. If the stock in these fisheries drop unacceptably low anglers will not frequent them. The only way in this current climate with so many local venues is if you want the custom then keep your venue well stocked, which both venues mention do. On the other hand a place like Crookes not even bailiffed now & left virtually to fend for itself like most council owned waters ie not stocked, now I understand I'm not qualified to say if any fish would eat every prey fish in Crookes but I do know a couple of blokes that catch a good few Roach & Perch for a place holding such a fish that's decimating the Ebro of prey.

I recon if this venue does indeed hold such a fish I would definitely be very interested to see it.

I'm still of the opinion that the presence of Catfish in here is either a down right lie, hearsay or folklore.

I've spent a good few hours researching on the web & can find nothing in regard to the Sheffield University stocking Catfish into Crookes so if anyone has any information I really interested to know.

What really does make me smile though marieh is that you seem to be trying to convince me the fish is in there, does it really matter what I think. This is a forum mate & shouldn't be taken seriously, because if anyone believes what they read on any forum written by strangers they need to get out more.

Remember the truth will out & evidence is king.

Just had another thought, if this fish has been caught it would need some serious tackle, so it stands to reason a specie type angler (that's what they call themselves) would have the capabilities to manage it. Then I'm sure such a capture would make the head lines in the Sheffield Star or at least the Angling Star & that's never happened has it ?
