Can humanity sink lower than this?

I wrote on the forum a few months ago how my then 86-year-old mother had her purse stolen from her bag by thieves as she did her weekly shopping in Hillsborough, leaving her tearful and afraid to go out.To steal from someone who served her country in the last war, in her most vulnerable years... surely no-one could sink lower?

How wrong I was.

My mother and a few other ladies of comparable age look forward to their weekly trip on their mobility bus, which takes them to Morrisons at Hillsborough barracks. One of her particular friends is partially sighted, but has a special visual aid to help her see the prices as she shops for a few essential items. When she went to pay at the checkout she noticed her purse was missing. Fortunately, a bystander stepped in and paid for her groceries.

Unable to believe it could have been stolen, the old lady reasoned that she must have forgetfully left it at home. She was anxious to find it so she could repay the person who had showed such kindness. Except that when she returned home, it wasn't there. And the truth of what had happened dawned when she learned that someone had been to her bank branch and tried to take out money on her card.

To everyone who shops in Hillsborough, be on your guard, particularly if you have elderly relatives. This is twice this despicable crime has been committed against members of the same small group. The thieves will clearly stop at nothing and are targeting the elderly and infirm. I have a few ideas about what I would like to do if I caught them, and I suspect many others would like the same opportunity. But for now let's keep our eyes and ears open in the hope we can helpthe police bring them to justice.

Don't mean to sound suspiscious and probably sounds a bit funny but not impossible nor unheard of, could it be a member of the group that is light fingered. Just seems a little coincidental to me, maybe the mini-bus driver or a carer?

However, I'm sure that if someone has attempted to withdraw money from her branch then they will be on CCTV.

Had my handbag stolen in Morrisons car park a month ago....the day before I went on holiday.

I don't think they're targeting just old people..it's anyone who takes their eyes off their posessions for a second like I did, probably when I was loading the shopping into the car.

Total scumbags.

Aye these thieves have no regard for the old, infirm or anyone else come to that. If they get caught, 10/1 they will walk away with little punishment, such is the society we live in.

Regards

Angel.

....and hasn't it been reported on this very forum.....several times, about cash machine fraud at morrisons?

I haven't been to Hillsborough for some time now but I used to love shopping there and never felt threatened. I'm not so sure the same could be said now.

I really am so sorry to hear how these scummers can do such a horrible thing to our elderly.

The kindness shown by the other shopper......a complete stranger, does go a long way to evening out the actions of the low life.

There are still plenty of decent and honest folk around and I would like to think they are in the majority.

Hope your Mum and her friends manage to get over these horrible events. It's difficult at such an age though.

I wish I could catch these scumbags in the act - I would not let up. I know two wrongs don't make a right but my god I would love to chin em
