suzan Posted October 24, 2011 Posted October 24, 2011 At the end of May i moved into a council house, i asked for permission to have a new gas fire installed, but never recieived a letter regarding this, so i went into a local office and they rang whoever they needed to speak to about it, i was told that permission had been granted so could go ahead with the work, which i did. I have now received a call asking me for the gas certificate for the fire, and i cant find it, so i have been told they will have to come and cap my gas off and charge me for it. I cant remember who installed the fire and i have looked through Sheffield star to find the fitter as that is where i got his number from and its not in anymore. I need advice as to what i can do now, thanks

web1 Posted October 24, 2011 Posted October 24, 2011 He should have filled in the installer part on the gaurantee as well as registering the installation with gas-safe, so contact either gas safe or the manufacturer and ask them for his name.

It wasnt the maufacturer that arranged installation so cant contact them. I purchased the fire off a website and i then arranged for a gas fitter myself.

He still should have registered the installation with gas-safe, and surely the manufacturer offered a gaurantee, regardless of who arranged the installation so he should have filled the gaurantee in. Why not try and look back through previous editions of there star on the website around the time it was installed? Lesson to be learned here methinks.
ANGELFIRE1 Posted October 25, 2011 Posted October 25, 2011 Aye, just get a "gas safe" engineer to come and test the fire and give you a certificate for it. Take it to the Council - job done. It will cost you, but consider it a lesson learned. Regards Angel.
growup Posted October 25, 2011 Posted October 25, 2011 don't the council do gas safety checks every year anyway, usually around august i think so the fire should have been tested then. I agree get someone to test it and u should be fine
