princesskay Posted October 23, 2011 Posted October 23, 2011 Anyone got any suggestions for saturday jobs or holiday work for a 14 year old exept a paper round, or anyone know of anywhere looking? Many thanks
nomnom Posted October 23, 2011 Posted October 23, 2011 apart from a paper round or cash in hand job not a lot really! most places only employ from 16 upwards because anyone under that can only work for so many hours per week
Tess Posted October 24, 2011 Posted October 24, 2011 Don't think theres anything wrong with it, but I know my mum never wanted me having one. She said walking around in the dark at 5am in the middle of winter isn't very safe for a 14 year old girl.....

Tess Posted October 24, 2011 Posted October 24, 2011 Is that what you think though? To be honest I was just glad to have an excuse not to do it. But yeah, I do suppose its not ideal.

It's a pity that fear limits what we let kids do these days but where in your opinion is free from threat? There won't be a lot of choice for that age group as mentioned already, all sorts of legalities covering hours worked and what they can and can't do. Paper rounds and milk rounds have been the money earners for a long time because neither is demanding.
Chez2 Posted October 24, 2011 Posted October 24, 2011 Cleaning in a kitchen? I used to clean pans, stack and empty dish washer etc. It was hard work but paid reasonable money as I would do the late shift until midnight then go to college the next day or I would do the weekend shift. I don't know about the rukes or insurance for people under 16 though. Could you do door to door catalogue sales like Avon with your parents help? What about babysitting?
MC Spyda Posted October 24, 2011 Posted October 24, 2011 Depending on what type of neighbourhood you live in, you could offer to do odd jobs door to door.
Lady Star Posted October 24, 2011 Posted October 24, 2011 When I was 14 I worked on icecream vans - try icecream vendors... In the summer we had stands in parks and in the winter it was hotdog stands in shopping areas... Never seen anything quite like them in Sheffield, but maybe there are and I've missed em? Used to pay 10% of the cash we made, which meant about £80-£100 a day on a boiling hot saturday in Clumber! Or about £30 on a cold wet October in Mansfield!
