Hi, I work at the Pet Crematorium at Doncaster. I have many deceased pets brought to me from RTA's, mostly cats and sadly not chipped. I have had a beautiful male Akita brought to me today found near junction 1 of the M18 between Bramley and Maltby area. He is not chipped but he had a black harness type lead on with a label saying Walk "R" cise. I have phoned many vets in the area been on lost dogs websites and other organisations but to no avail. If anybody has heard anything or indeed if you hear about any pet in the area that goes missing please give me a call. 01302 726144

Thats really kind of you to do jodyallen - thank you - if he had a harness on like that - I'm sure he was loved and owned and someone is missing him tonight.

I hope they get to read about it and put their minds at rest.

Is it worth putting on the radio?

Thanks for your reply Rainrescue. Sadly there are alot of politics involved here. It breaks my heart every time a dog but like I said mainly cats are brought into me from the local councils, highways etc. Unfortunatley only the Managers and people in Authority have scanners not the guys who have to bring the pets into me, I don't have a scanner but I do have contacts that do when available but sadly not all the time.

That's terrible :( You'd think that when they are picked up by the council they should be checked for a chip there and then. So lovely of you to do this, so sorry it can't be an easy job :(

Presumably he was 'near' the motorway and not on it, as there's a legal requirement for dogs found on the motorway to be scanned by Highways (after much campaigning), even though that requirement doesn't carry through to local roads :loopy:

RainRescue, can you remember who it was campaigning to get that altered, and am I right in thinking they help to fund scanners in these circumstances?
