Only parts of it;).

Doesn't matter. If they are causing an obstruction then they should move to somewhere safer.

We don't know if it was an obstruction. We only have one person's word and the OP was pretty vague.

Do you have inside information ? Do you know exActly what all the police personnel were doing on Herries Road ? What a ridiculous thing to say.

Of course not, but how many threads to you read on the forum that say they've been broken into, car stolen etc and the police cannot attend until hours later? Surely with the cut backs they should be spreading officers out as far as they can?

Because in the real world there isn't a driver on the roads who can say, hand on heart, that they have NEVER driven over the speed limit, either intentionally or otherwise. I think that you have been extremely lucky and I think you know it.

Now point to the part where I said I hadn't gone over the speed limit? That's right, I didn't. A lot of people get involved in these discussions because the have an axe to grind with the police, I don't. In fact, other than pulling me and wasting my time with the wrong information on a few occasions (which I have posted about on here) they have been extremely useful to me.

Motorists should be watching the road, not rubbernecking. It's hardly the police's fault if motorists cannot do this.

It might take one officer to pull over the traffic, one to do the questioning and possibly a car or bike to give chase. What if they wanted to pull over more than one car, what would happen then?

As for your last comment. Pulling vehicles doesn't only deter and remove traffic crimes, it is also a good tool for catching other, more serious offenders. Criminals travel by road, often with stolen items and/or drugs.

No they shouldn't be rubber necking, but they do. No it isn't the police's fault that they do, but they know full well that it happens and that it causes accidents. Shouldn't they do all they can to prevent it?

As for more than one car, the majority of people pull over anyway, what's the chances of getting two cars at the same time that decide to do a runner? Should they have had five vehicles instead? Oh but what if three drive off? 6 vehicles perhaps?

Purely in my opinion and as much as people whine and moan about uninsured drivers, I believe the police use far too many resources chasing cars.

So, how should officers prevent rubber necking then? Stop doing roadside stops?! That's just silly. The police being there is just one of many distractions. If someone has an accident because of this, then rightly, they should be charged.

I think you misunderstood me. What I mean't was, they need the man power to do more than check at once. If there was only the one officer doing the searching, checks and interviewing, it wouldn't be a very productive method would it.

Have you not read anything I have put. They are not only tackling motoring offences with these stop checks, but also targeting other areas of criminality too.

I meant prevent the amount of distraction :).

From what I could gather, vans were being guided off the main road down a side street so there were obviously more officers down there. I realise that they aren't just looking for car tax evaders and the like, I just don't think they need the full amount of man power that they use.

When I got pulled for having no tax (even though I did, it was clearly displayed in my window with the post office stamp, stating cash ) There was one apnr van, one officer stood watching and one car waiting to pull me over. No distractions for other road users, effective policing and officers spare for other eventualities. Makes more sense to me.

It wasn't vague at all. The were parked in the middle of the road blocking vision of the road.

Drove past twice this morning. Saw a black van parked in the middle of the carriageway as I drove up from the Five Arches. Did it block my view of the road? NO.

Drove back down in the opposite direction. Did it block my view of the road? NO

The only 'possible obstruction' is a vehicle emerging out of Scraithwood Road, which, as this picture from google street view shows, there is a clear view down Herries. The ANPR van was parked in the middle of the carriageway in front of a traffic island and thus causing an insignificant obstruction if any at all.

Thanks for the warning, Herries Road is one of my favourite local fast roads.

Nice to know that. I fish Herries pond once or twice a week and getting out of there is a nightmare due to cars speeding up and down.I came out yesterday and did what I always do which is, if the road is clear at the arches I go uphill fast for a few yards until I am sure that no one is coming up fast behind me.I saw the van yeserday it did not obstruct the view unless cars were going either way on the wrong side of the road.

They (The Police) are also causing traffic to back up causing queues and their presence is likely to cause an accident for two reasons:

One. They are all over the junction and people are slamming the brakes on causing a chain reaction.

Two. That black van they have parked up illegally is blocking the view for anyone coming up Herries watching for those coming across from Scraithwood Road.

How refreshing to see someone from Admin saying it as it is.

Makes a real change from the usual Admin habit of lickin' Copper's boots

and kissing their asses.
