mj.scuba Posted October 21, 2011 Posted October 21, 2011 Lots of police at the bottom of Herries Road at Hillsborough this morning checking vans etc. but something else got my goat a little. Further up Herries, just where the fishing pond is and near the junction, is a plain black police ANPR or speed trap van, parked in the centre of the road in front of one of the central islands, parked right on the white lines: http://maps.google.co.uk/maps?hl=en&ll=53.413983,-1.489999&spn=0.000026,0.019205&t=m&z=16&vpsrc=6&layer=c&cbll=53.414063,-1.489815&panoid=bVn6xMhlCkQLAi3TlaiRpQ&cbp=12,254.41,,1,8.75 Surely that cannot be a legal place to park a vehicle, even for the police? If so how is it acceptable for the police to park illegally so they can catch others for motoring offences?

Tony Posted October 21, 2011 Posted October 21, 2011 I believe that they have an operational exemption as do traffic wardens, etc, but to be fair if you don't slow down if you see any vehicle parked just there you can't really call foul.

AJ sheffield Posted October 21, 2011 Posted October 21, 2011 Thought the op said ANPR not speed trap? He also said lots of police.
Agent Orange Posted October 21, 2011 Posted October 21, 2011 He also said lots of police. They will be doing vehicle checks, insurance, MOT and all that. They often carry out major operations down there.

kittenta Posted October 21, 2011 Posted October 21, 2011 They are also causing traffic to back up causing queues and their presence is likely to cause an accident for two reasons, one, they are all over the junction and people are slamming the brakes on causing a chain reaction. Two, that black van they have parked up illegally is blocking the view for anyone coming up Herries watching for those coming across from Scrathewood (sp?) Road is rage was also an issue this morning when I returned the favour of having to crawl up the road to a police man and drove so slowly (there was only him behind me) that he felt the need to have a rant to himself . Classic do as I say, not as I do attitude unfortunately. Just like parking attendants who were parked in a bus stop, on a busy road, outside a school this week. So many of them just don't care and are happy to break the law when it suits them because they know full well that they can get away with it. What I don't understand is why do so many drivers, who are doing the speed limit or less already, feel the need to hit the brakes at the sight of a police car or speed camera? Just keep going for christ sake!
