Chinese toddler run over and ignored by passers by

Yes, it was in China.

I read the story on Tuesday, I haven't watched the video.

I don't think it would happen in the UK, I can't imagine people just walking past leaving a child dying in the gutter! It simply beggars that mind that these people could be so inhuman and callous. Not one of them even bothered to phone the emergency services.

Not to defend the people in the video, but the ones that passed by but didn't see the incident, may not have even realised what was going on. Especially when you are walking by in a world of your own. It can be done.

I also don't want to see the video, but did the person who hit the little girl run over her TWICE?!! :help:

I saw it last night pretty sure a second vehicle drove over her legs it appeared to pause before driving forwards, one man on a scooter stopped looked then drove off, several people looked at her before walking past.

Yup, a second vehicle does run over the childs legs.

Well, firstly with a front wheel, and after a pause, the rear.

The poor little thing! :(

Ok, the first time I'm sure was an accident. The second time, the cold hearted #&%*@& KNEW he hit her!! How could he just drive off? I wouldn't leave an animal like that!

Maybe because I'm a parent, but I generally notice young children in public places who seem to be alone. I always stop and make sure someone is with them and that they're not lost. And I don't care if whoever's minding them gets annoyed with me. It's better than hearing about them on the 6 o' clock news.

A second vehicle? This goes from bad to worse.

The problem with that, is that there have been so many scams involving situations like this, which can make people wary. And then when the situation is genuine, you get things like this happening. It really is awful.

I read yesterday that the problem in China is when someone helps they are often either accused of causing the injury in the first place and pursued for damages or are assumed to be a relative and are given the hospital bill.

Found link -

"The China Daily reported incidents in January in which elderly men who fell in the street were left alone because people did not want to get involved.

It cited an earlier case in which a man, Peng Yu, who helped an injured elderly lady to hospital was then found by a court to be liable for some of her medical costs.

Another case - in which an elderly woman believed to have fallen in the road accused a man, Xu Yunhe, who stopped to help her, of hitting her with his car - also attracted considerable attention"

the child's parents were interviewed by the China news channel and they seemed quite well educated types. Interestingly, there doesn't seem to be too much emphasis at least in their media, as to how come a 2 year old child was allowed to wander about on a busy street like that. It seems all the blame is being apportioned on the drivers.

often in poor countries sad to say, but a woman may have very little choice but to just leave her kids, even quite tiny tots, with just a bag of rice and a little bottle of water for hours in the heat so they can go to work nearby to earn an absolute pittance. They just leave their kids by the side of the road with maybe a nod to somebody that has a noodle stall they kind of half trust to keep an eye on them. It's no good being judgemental about this and saying from the comfort of the wealthy west, that you or I would never dream of doing something like this. They really do have no or very little choice about it.

but it seems like these parents were quite well off.
