readlaura Posted October 20, 2011 Posted October 20, 2011 Hi everyone, I am currently a product design student at the University of Nottingham and I am currently doing a design project based on the idea of encouraging people to share. I have decided to design a better way to share seeds so that it is easier for people to participate. The design would consist of a central hub situated in allotments where small containers are provided for people to take away and deposit their excess seeds in. People will then bring these containers with the seeds in back to the central hub and leave them there for other people to use, and they can take some other seeds themselves. The containers have tags on them as well so that you know what type of seeds are in each containers and I was thinking of having a request board so that people can ask if anyone has any specific seeds. I was hoping to ask for your opinions on the idea and any suggestions you may have towards the designs or anyway that you could think to make it more useful and encouraging for you to use it. (I have to warn you that if you respond to this then you are consenting for anything you say to be used throughout my design project, but once this has finished the information will be deleted. It is also anonymous.) Thanks so much for your time Laura Read
HarrietStar Posted October 20, 2011 Posted October 20, 2011 Hi Laura I think it's an excellent idea. I dont have an allotment but do swap seeds between family and friends. I would use it if provided in community gardens too, for example the walled garden at hillsborough. As well as labelling the seed with the plant name, it would also be good to provide space to label the date (of seed collection) and any notes/planting instructions.
