One that covers the entire city would be good. The place is a crap hole ideally suited for use as a nuclear testing ground.

An alternative would be a giant, as yet unflushed, toilet.

That sums Sheff up.

Sheffield doesn't need statues or world class wastes of money like the student games. It needs to get rid of the Labour party and get someone in that knows how to run business.

That won't include wasting cash on pointless crap like a statue.

I think EON is funding it. But, never let facts get in the way of a pointless rant! Onwards and upwards chaps!

Personally, I really like the sculpture. I've seen the small scale version of it and I think it represents Sheffield very well. The artist who made it is S A Mehdi and he owns the Ecclesall Gallery on (surprise, surprise) Ecclesall Road. It's privately funded and is manufactured by steel foundry's in Sheffield.

It will be seen for miles, as is the 'Angel of the North' by Antony Gormley at Gateshead. As such, it'll have it's own detractors who, I guess just don't understand what art is about.

Of course, good art is meant to be controversial, so judging by some of the comments on here , It seems to fit the bill perfectly! :)

I sure do. Of course my opinions are always the correct ones.

By and large they're ill-informed, reveal a thoroughly self centred and arrogant disregard for others and are designed to cause the maximum of offence and ill-feeling in the reader.

Apart from that, they're great.

I think they should have kept the two towers instead!

You do realize that other parts of the country have grime encrusted cooling towers as well?

Yeah something that represents the city for definite

A calendar that reads 1971?

(Behind the times.)

Sheffield is skint and can't afford to run the city

Irrelevant, it's private money that's paying for it.

It's like going up to someone buying a new car and saying "do you know that the city council is skint"?

The (printable) response would be "what do you expect me to do about it"?

I sure do. Of course my opinions are always the correct ones.

And I thought I was an annoying know-it-all. :D

I know, lets put up the council tax to pay for it! Lots of sheffield people will still want a statue then!

It's privately funded
