I recently read in the Sheffield Chamber Magazine that there are plans to back a gateway statue on the M1 - similar kind of thing to the 'Angel of the North'

I mean seriously though!!????

I think they should have kept the two towers instead! What are peoples thoughts??

If I've heard correctly, it's something which will represent Sheffield rather than just a random statue/monument. If so, then that's a great idea. I'd go for a massive steel football with all of Sheffield's club badges in the hexagons.

Yeah something that represents the city for definite but the picture i've seen is a big ugly statue!! I suppose whatever it will be will be controversial though..

I loved the statue which was proposed a couple of weeks back. A kind of giant sitting steel man. The improvised artists impression of it was stunning.

Let's see.

The roads are buggered and there are fewer and fewer jobs available.

Yep, a stature is just what Sheffield needs.

were going to get it like it or not. All I'm saying is I prefer that Idea to the others. Infact I prefered the towers.

And as for pothole city, I know better than most that the council repair regime is pathetic. I smashed my ulna & radius to peices and had to have it surgically rebuilt because of a 2ft wide by 3ft long by 3 inch deep crevice on my road.

Always one...art is even more important at times of economic hardship.

I am not disagreeing with the artistic concept of a monument representing the city...I am just saying I don't particularly like the aforementioned one....as previously stated any monument of this size is likely to be controversial.
