Salt baths after childbirth

No. When my OH had my daughter she was recommended creams for the stitches, not something out of the dark ages like a salt bath!

If it's "out of the dark ages" (and it's not *that* long since I had my daughter, thank you) why are they still recommending it to people? Doctors also recommend it for infections in fingers and toes. Just because it's old doesn't mean it isn't any good any more.

I understand its to do with the concentration. You would need a bucket full of salt to make the volume of water in the bath salty enough to be effective. Its the keeping clean with a couple of baths a day that helps ward away infection.

As far as the dentist advice goes, I expect that a teaspoon of salt in a cup of water may well be concentrated enough to do the job.
