Cats are NOT target practice for air rifles

My cat has just been to the vets - last night he had a weird smell coming from his head but I turned a blind eye to it. This morning, he jumped onto my bed and the smell was vile - it literally made me gag. I looked at his head and he had a deep cut on top of his head, just below his ear. There was pus all around it and I believe this was the smell.

He went to the vets and we have been told he's been shot in the head with an air rifle. I live in Crookes and we know all of our neighbours - bar 2 new people on one side of us. We know our other neighbours, and everyone else around us are families.

Lucas never goes across the road, and he very very very rarely goes further than 3 houses down from us. He was meowing very loudly this morning but the smell was there last night. He doesn't seem to have been in much pain - when I cleaned it, he hardly flinched. But the outcome is an air rifle wound.

He is back home now, shaved head and £60 costs. I am absolutely fuming. How could someone just go up to a cat and shoot it? My other half says she doubts they intended to kill it, but I said "why shoot it if you don't want to kill it?". I don't know what my next move is. But I am keeping a close eye on everyone around here. This WILL NOT happen again.

So sorry to hear about what has happened to lucas.......

Yet again another story that makes my blood boil.......

Fact as anyone who knows me i don't do HUMANS does that give me the right to go around taking random shots at people.....

I really feel for you and wish him a speedy recovery, loads of tlc....

morning guys!

just an update on lucas, he seems absolutely fine. Obviously he still has the cut on his head but it looks like its slowly starting to heal. He seems a bit TOO loving lately  he wont leave me alone! :help:

Thank you for all your concern and best wishes, it is really appreciated! I'm sure he would tell you the same thing! He is well on the road to recovery I'm glad to say.

Hopefully this won't happen again.

Oh bless, glad he's ok. It s awful. My cat went missing for 3 days and came back with a poorly eye, took her to the vets and she had been shot in the eye :( she had to have her eye removed and then a second op to remove the bullet that had become wedged in.

I was so mad! She's doing so well, she was shot in 2008,but it is so awful.Thank god for pet insurance, I would have found, begged borrowed the money, but I was glad that was something I didnt have to worry about.

Sending cat a little fuss xx
