avblade09 Posted October 19, 2011 Posted October 19, 2011 My cat has just been to the vets - last night he had a weird smell coming from his head but I turned a blind eye to it. This morning, he jumped onto my bed and the smell was vile - it literally made me gag. I looked at his head and he had a deep cut on top of his head, just below his ear. There was pus all around it and I believe this was the smell. He went to the vets and we have been told he's been shot in the head with an air rifle. I live in Crookes and we know all of our neighbours - bar 2 new people on one side of us. We know our other neighbours, and everyone else around us are families. Lucas never goes across the road, and he very very very rarely goes further than 3 houses down from us. He was meowing very loudly this morning but the smell was there last night. He doesn't seem to have been in much pain - when I cleaned it, he hardly flinched. But the outcome is an air rifle wound. He is back home now, shaved head and £60 costs. I am absolutely fuming. How could someone just go up to a cat and shoot it? My other half says she doubts they intended to kill it, but I said "why shoot it if you don't want to kill it?". I don't know what my next move is. But I am keeping a close eye on everyone around here. This WILL NOT happen again.
Lady Star Posted October 19, 2011 Posted October 19, 2011 It may not be your new neighbours, in fact it might not be anyone who lives near you - could be someone just wandering about your area... I too keep cats, but I do keep mine indoors, or just in my garden... They're mine, and I wouldn't want this sort of thing to happen to them...Could be that your pet is too used to wandering freely, but should you get cats again, keep them home, and then you know they're safe... Particularly at this time of year when kids are playing with fireworks... Glad to hear your cat isn't too distressed by this though!
virgoen18 Posted October 19, 2011 Posted October 19, 2011 That's awful - words cannot describe the kind of people that do this. I hope you find out who did it and they get what they deserve. I hope your cat is ok and makes a full recovery xx
avblade09 Posted October 19, 2011 Author Posted October 19, 2011 Oh all he wants to do right now is have some food... he couldn't care less I don't think I'll ever find out who did it, but all I can do is keep an eye on them both as much as time allows. Luckily my other cat, Tilly, is very domesticated. She very rarely leaves the house, if she does, she sits in the garden and chases the odd fly. Lucas as I said very rarely goes anywhere, he's a bit like Tilly. He loves it outside but luckily stays in the garden or next doors garden. The vet couldn't feel the pellet (sp?), so he told us if it hasn't started to heal in 5 days, he will have to do an X-Ray to see if it is inside somewhere. I'm sure he will be fine, it just upsets me to know someone did it to my cat. I have read about it happening to any animals and it angers me... its a different emotion when its to your own. Thanks for the concern guys its much appreciated
virgoen18 Posted October 19, 2011 Posted October 19, 2011 It's really upsetting when you know someone has deliberately tried to harm/kill your pet. Pets are part of the family and I know how painful it is when someone does something like this. Don't rise to some of the idiots on this forum who think they know it all and hate animals. I'm just glad your little ones are ok. xx
brownie25 Posted October 19, 2011 Posted October 19, 2011 my cat once got shot in the face i cant under stand what makes people want to do things like this it makes me so mad
katkin Posted October 19, 2011 Posted October 19, 2011 Hope Lucas is recovering, I really cannot understand what pleasure people get from doing something so callous. I lost a cat to shock after she was shot by an idiot who thought it was acceptable to use her for target practice. I would love to take a few shots at anyone who does but sadly thats not permitted. Dont care what folk think about cats, (hey, I feel the same way about most kids), but it is simply not acceptable to shoot them.

Spot on Katkin, the next time another kid kicks a ball at my window does that give me right to get a pellet gun and shoot them in the head, no but for some reason certain people think it's acceptable to do this to animals
medusa Posted October 19, 2011 Posted October 19, 2011 Can I remind you that this is the pet owners' group? If you're here to wind up a pet owner then you need to understand that this is likely to result in you having to come to the Helpdesk to get your account back.

I am surprised he/she is not already banned
