Maybe the drinks industry are like Prophets from the Old Testament and can see into the future?

Maybe they're having to bring in 24 hour boozing to compensate?

Afterall, if it were to happen, they'd be losing one of their biggest sponsors.

And I don't mean to be heartless with this post. Get Well Soon, George.

Hick.

According to the news your prediction may well be coming true as we type.

The doctors have just said that he won't recover and his hours are numbered.

So we are going to have the next few days full of the usual glib platitudes, tears, minutes silence, and all the other crap that goes off when somebody like this dies.

He was a fantastic footballer but that is all he was.

To me he was an alcholic wifebeater who wasted his life and when he got another chance due to somebody elses misfortune he wasted that as well.

Totally agreed!

Even though he was a legend for my club, he cant make up for the fact that he is a wife beating alki son of a bitch!

You hit a woman- you dont deserve to live in my eyes.

I agree with Angelus, anyone who hits a woman is a complete w*****, so he's dying, i dare say his ex wives aren't gonna be too upset.

Although he was a brilliant football player in his day, every DOG has its day, and George's time is up, it comes to all of us, but no wonder his body has had enough with all the abuse he has given it over the years.

Ah well, RIP george best (tho he hasnt gone yet, it'll be within the next 12 hrs i reckon)

Be quiet Angelus. Just for once.

Sorry fella.. I know how you feel about the guy being a fellow red but it has to be said, that Georgie boy has wasted his life.

The guy is still a red legend and always will be and I thank him for everything he has done for us- but still, you hit a lady.. legend or no legend- you go down bigtime in my estimation.

Spyro, it's hard to concur with Angelus's opinion on this for several reasons.

I regularly come on here (the forum) and read posts from members that for instance advocate clemency for such reprehensible human beings as Saddam Hussein, they've excercised understanding for Islamo-facist suicide bombers and other odious members of the human race.

George Best was a footballing genius better informed people than you or I have said that with consistent regularity for many years. The downside of genius is that sometimes it comes with faults. George's was alcohol and all the faults that come with that. His stardom 40 years ago came like a bolt out of the blue, his then manager, Matt Busby, didn't know how to manage it and sadly George fell into an abyss. Stars today are better managed and generally they are shepherded away from the ills but even after the lessons learnt from Best there are exceptions, Paul Gascoigne, Paul Merson and Tony Adams being the most notable.

I was born in the 60's and Bestie, although unfortunately never an Everton player, was a football inspiration to millions of kids like myself. Millions of football spectators thrilled on his performances even though their team was probably on the losing side because of him. I've actually posted on a Man U website tonight about Bestie. On the same thread there were posts from fans of countless other clubs rejoicing in what he brought to the game.

Yes Angelus is right, George drank too much, might have hit his wife/girlfriend and at times made a total **** of himself but he did bring pleasure to many, many people during his football career and even afterwards.

He had flaws and frailties, we've all got those but some of the comments made about him don't rank him alongside what should be reserved for Ian Huntley, Brady or some other repugnant individual.
