Toten   10 #2 Posted September 28, 2011 Fords usually come with 2 keys, a red master key and a black general purpose key. It appears you have the black one. Both have chips in that operate the electronic anti theft device on the ingnition system. To get a copy cut you need to present the red master key to the key supplier so they can clone the electronic chip. You could get a black non chipped key cut that may operate the central locking provided that its not equipped with the electronic key recognition system within the doors.  failing that you would have to replace the ignition and door lock assemblies to get a new red key, the cost for a Mondeo was quoted to me last year at over £700, i'd amagine your car would be similar in price. steroc   10 #5 Posted September 29, 2011 (edited) I believe Ford done away with the red keys along time ago. An 05 would have come with two black keys. Getting a key cut is easy enough and programming the remote locking can be done in car but you need two keys to be able to programme the built in immobiliser chip, you need to insert both keys into ignition in turn then enter 3rd key in and it programmes it. Take it to a ford dealers, they will sort it for about £250 (don't quote me on that, based price on being quoted £180 years ago). No need to replace locks and ignition.  p.s. Harold's can't do it 'cos they can't do the immobiliser side. That's the first place I tried along with various other locksmith / car auto electrical specialists. All advised me to go to Ford dealers. Edited September 29, 2011 by steroc
 Share this content via...

steroc   10 #10 Posted November 12, 2011 Harrolds can do it. They supplied a duplicate key cut from my original for my Focus 3 years ago. Works perfectly  How old is your Focus? An 05 Focus will have the newer PATS II (Passive Anti-Theft System) immobiliser and require 2 working keys to be able to D.I.Y. programme a new 3rd key. The reason for this is to make it impossible for someone who has access to your key to be able to copy it (ie. You take your car to a dodgy garage and they copy your key and later your car goes missing). The other way is to have immobiliser completey reset and new keys supplied which Harold's can't do. neeeeeeeeeek   10 #11 Posted November 12, 2011 My old x reg Volvo key cost over £200 to replace as the only people who could code it were the main dealers. Try a few independent Ford specialists, they will know.
 Share this content via...
