Great Yorkshire Run 2011

Recommended Posts

I'm entered. I'm expecting to do the run in about 4 hrs. My training's going ok but i still actually haven't run full race distance yet!!! best i've done is 5.5 miles in 56 mins. I've got my race no and i'm in the pink wave. I'm quite pleased in that 2 months ago i genuinelly couldn't run for 60 secs. And the fact i've raised over £270 for the childrens hospital. :-)

Nice one on the fund raising. This is what it's all about - new runners doing their first event - you'll get addicted, trust me!

And don't worry about your pace, you're doing it to finish and not to win, right? The excitement of the day will give you 20% extra and 10k is only 6.2 miles so all you have to do is another 0.7 miles and you're finished which is easily within that 20%. From now until the race just keep limbered up, a couple of 3-5k runs maybe but nothing more and nothing fast.

thanks :) the race time to me is irrelevant, its the finishing im focussed on. i'm now sat nursing a very very very painful foot (on account of an old lisfranc fracture) that only usually hurts when it rains or is cold. i'm excited but very nervous for the race. but its all for a good cause and i cant wait for a big hug from my boy at the finish line :-)

I'm doing it, training going really poor but i dont care, i'll get round it even if i have to run/walk/run/walk/jog/walk/stagger/walk a bit as im running for Leeds Childrens Heart Surgery Fund which is threatened with closure so the nearest specialist centre would be over hundred miles away for any child with serious heart problems

I did this last year and had an enjoyable day, completed it in 1hr 03mins. Did a 'race' in May around the Top Gear Test Track and finished in 55mins. I havent done any training for this one which is silly but hope to at least match the 55 mins through rugby fitness!! Foolish me thinks!!

I'm actually right looking forward to this 10k. Had to pull out of the half marathon due to injury so this'll be my first event this year.

And thank Sheldon it's cooled down and looks to be a nice 10 degrees on Sunday atm.

entered this last year but got plantar fasciitus so pulled out.found out i was wearing wrong shoes. took 11mths to heal.so got correct shoes. i started doing the odd 3.6 mile run six mths ago on and off for about 3mths due to major house diy after work. then i did my furthest distance 7.2 miles in 74 mins. then got a strain in other plantar. last mth did 4, 3.6 mile runs in 4 days. had 10 days off then another 3.6 mile in my fastest ever time. then got slight strains in both plantars. trouble is i pushed myself too quickly too soon. had 2 week rest then 2, 3.6 mile runs last week and 1, this week and a 4.4 mile run today. putt arch supports in my running shoes even tho they are the correct ones for extra support and it seems to have done the trick. but this run has come too soon for me. so i will aim for half marathon next year as my first ever race. easing the distance up slightly each week. good luck everyone.:)

...and wet...very very wet! In fact I hear Marti Pellow & Co have been booked for the "Bands on the Run"!

Don't think we'll need that run-through shower on the return along Penistone Road this year

Thanks GB and everyone else who was there to support - it really does give you a boost when everyone is shouting and singing and clapping, especially up that last hill.

Shaved a minute off my time - 60 mins this year! Was hoping to get 50-something this time, but I'm still really pleased. And it gives me a target for next year :)

Well done to everyone!!

I am very proud of my brother who did the Great Yorkshire Run today, it is the very first time he has done any run and he did it in 1hour 5 minutes and has raised lots of money for the Heart Foundation.

Glad the weather forecasters were wrong...warm but not too warm and dry!

Last year I made the mistake of thinking Snig Hill was the approach to the Finish so gunned it up there with the last left in my "tank". I remembered this year about the drop back down by Castle Market and saved something for the real final climb
