Speed Demon   10 #1 Posted September 10, 2011 what actually causes it, i have just got it on my laptop while watching some youtube videos  i have just had my laptop repaired as i was having this issue before, the first bloke who looked at my laptop said that the main issue could be the hard drive  the second bloke who looked at it needed to replace my screen and he said it may have been the screen that was the issue, now after all that it still happening  is it the flash videos i watch, could it be them that is the problem, as the blue screen says something about video and memory dump, it does not stay on long enough to read owt else  also, could it be the video chips, or the drivers, there must be a way to resolve this as i always get the blue screen while watching videos nothing else
 Share this content via...

walkerx   10 #3 Posted September 10, 2011 this sounds more like a driver issue, but could be still be down to hardware  if running windows try this  right-click my computer and choose properties click on advanced (think this is same for all versions) under 'startup and recovery' click on settings under 'system failure' remove the tick from the tickbox for 'automatic restart'  this should allow you to see what is causing the problem next time it happens  post back the exact message
 Share this content via...

Guest   #5 Posted September 10, 2011 what actually causes it, i have just got it on my laptop while watching some youtube videos... I had that BSOD issue on my Win 7 laptop. In my case it was due to as issue with atikmpag.sys and was remedied by uninstalling some dodgy graphics card drivers and reverting to the default ones. walkerx   10 #10 Posted September 10, 2011 ram is not just the cause of a BSOD it can be a driver issue, an application referencing memory it's not supposed to reference, corrupted data which can be caused by faulty hardware - just wait and see if it happens again  you could also run memtest x86, prime 95, futuremark or something similar - litterally give your laptop something to do to fully stress it and see if the problem re-occurs  remember when diagnosing faults you should do one step at a time
 Share this content via...
Mikes10 Â Â 10 #11 Posted September 10, 2011 The link below is to the Microsoft Windows Memory Diagnostic tool all the info on how to download and use it is on the page. Â Its a typical Microsoft product, it has to be installed and then run to create an ISO image. The ISO is then burnt to CD as an image. I used imageburn. Â The computer then has be boot from CD where a variety of test patterns are applied to the computers memory. Â I'm sure everyone reading this will want to try it, so why not give it a go. Probably generate a little spike at MS with the interest shown in this tool. Â Â http://oca.microsoft.com/en/windiag.asp
 Share this content via...
walkerx   10 #12 Posted September 10, 2011 running something like memtest x86 or pc-check is a lot better than running the microsoft tool.
 Share this content via...
