Interview with Marco Portaluri from Kapap Gym.

AFK-SL=

You are due to step up at the Superleague next month, how do you feel about that?

MP=

The superleague is great. I was there at the beginning when you were still doing those smaller working mens club shows and I enjoyed them and ive had a bit of time out and I'm back and cant wait to get back in there!

AFK-SL=

You are well known as one of the Superleague's main event fighters, tell us about your current fight record.

MP= I have had 3 wins and 2 Draws. Out of those wins , one was a stoppage with leg kicks at darnall and my debut was against a fighter with more experience and he sat there eating in front of me while i had to skip off a KG to make weight.

That'll teach me to eat pizza before a weigh in

(laughs)

AFK-SL=

You fought the very tough Mark Beaumont from Barnsley, care to tell us about those fights?

MP= (smiles)

You mean Goose? He was tough as nails! I won one fight and the rematch was a draw. Both times it was a split decision and we have both since become good friends and I think hes a great lad!

AFK-SL=

No chance of a rubber stamp then?

MP= Speak to my manager (laughs) no thanks, unless there was a Title Belt on the line and I had to fight him.

Really though I fight who Craig tells me to. I let Craig worry about my matches.

AFK-SL=

You are best known for your kickboxing fights. This is your MMA Debut, how do you feel about it?

MP= (shrugs)

Kapap is a complete system and we do BJJ classes too so i guess its a natural progression.

Its nice to try something new.

AFK-SL=

Do you know anything about your oppponent?

MP=(shrugs again)

Not really, dont even know his name , only that he has had MMA Fights before. Im not really bothered I just get on with it and enjoy it.

AFK-SL =

No predictions then?

MP=Not really (Laughs)

I just hope he has a good fight and I wish him all the best.

Interview with Craig Welsh from Kapap (lotar on the forum)

(michael was unavailable)

AFK-SL=

What are your views on Michael and Marco fighting on the Superleague.

LOTAR=

Smashing!!! Really love it mate! We cant wait for it.

We always like your shows, the matching is fair the weigh ins are strict and everything is done by the book.

Dont always agree with everything the judges say but thats our fault for not smashing them! (laughs)

AFK-SL=

Kapap have always turned out strong fighters in both MMA as well as K-1.

What is the secret?

LOTAR= (shrugs)

I dont know? Train hard fight easy I guess?

We do train hard though , especially our Friday night conditioning class, really separates the men from the boys!

Seriously though , Kapap is a complete fighting system. We cover all angles. We dont use much flashy stuff, and you wont see our guys throwing spinning high kicks but all of our guys can Box very well.

AFK-SL= Done a bit of boxing yourself havent you?

LOTAR (laughs)

Never mind that its all about the boys now , im too old for this foolishness

AFK-SL = Tell me more about these classes you do then.

LOTAR=

Put me on the spot why dont you?

We do Kickboxing , call it thaiboxing or K-1 if you want (laughs again).

We also do self protection which is the "nasty" part of kapap. Real military fighting system taught to the Mosad and Israeli special forces. Designed to fight without rules where it counts the most.

Weve also got BJJ classes and i instruct under a Brazilian Black Belt called Arlans Siquerira who is absolutely awesome!

There is also Kempo Karate classes on Sundays which is a traditional Japanese art but also very self defense based.

I could go on but this is about the boys not about what I do.

AFK-SL

You guys dont seem to be as active , do you fight out of town at all?

LOTAR (looks at me)

We dont fight anywhere really , Im all about self protection. This show business is just like a hard sparring session for the boys and a social night out for the rest of the club. Oi! make sure you save me them tables!!!

Naaah we're not bothered about travelling around the place. Queens road will do me its only a 10 minute drive for me. I go home once our fights have done and go to bed. (laughs again)

Your shows are well run so im happy to keep coming and putting figthers on as youre my mate.

AFK-SL

The support is appreciated! What do you know about Michael Gabbitas's opponent. Do you have any predictions?

LOTAR

Only that hes really experienced and has fought Ant and that lad from Barnsley. Oh and hes a ****kicker from Stocksbridge (laughs again)

Thats all really.

No predictions we dont do predictions, Michael just likes fighting and this is just another chance for him to test his skills again.

Win lose or draw, were here to enjoy ourselves.

Oh its a Title fight? Well whatever . Micks not bothered you can keep the belt if you want i think it'll go well with your suit mate but headshots on the floor sounds good too ,makes it more real!

Tell Mick's opponent all the best for it! Best man win and enjoy the fight and the drinking after!

Interview with David Paddison (Grimsby MMA gym) for the Over 35's MMA Contest.

AFK-SL= David you are about to Fight in the AFK Superleague, how do you feel about that?

DP=Im really excited. Ive had a few team mates fight on the Superleague, its a great show with excellent matchmaking and I'd happily urge any coach to put their fighters on it.

It is a really well run show and I'm priviledged to be a part of it!

AFK-SL= This is a Veterans match up, how old are you?

DP = I am 35 years young

AFK-SL= Being 35, do you find it hard to keep up with the younger guys when it comes to Speed and Stamina?

DP= Are you joking???

I am like a fine wine. I only get better with age. Its the younger guys that have to keep up with me!

AFK-SL= What is your Fighting Style? I hear you do something called 10th Planet Ju Jitsu?

DP= I am a striker at heart and Kickboxing is my primary Fighting style. Grimsby as you know is home to a lot of Sport Karate/Kickboxing activity. However I am comfortable on the ground.

10th Planet Ju Jitsu is a variation on BJJ. It was founded by Eddie Bravo who needs no introduction. 10th planet has a few characteristics suited to fighting without a Gi.

AFK-SL=

Which fighters do you most admire and why?

DP=

I admire each and every Fighter that fights on the superleague. I fully appreciate the effort that every fighter has to go through both physically and mentally. You will notice that I make an effort to watch each and every fight when Im not in the backroom with my teammates.

I admire everyone from the raw novice to the top of the bill. Also I like to have a gander on everyone on the scene.

Im a bit of a geek like that (laughs)

AFK-SL=

Anybody youd like to fight in particular?

DP= Id like to fight the Hulk , I think he can match my strength!!!

However I am fighting Robert Gibson from Eckington MMA in November. Ive seen him fight, hes physically strong and tough so should be a good fight.

No matter what the outcome Im here to enjoy myself.

AFK-SL=Any Fights you are looking forward to in particular?

DP= Well obviously my own fight and my PRimal Gym Team mates fights. Tariq is fighting Tanny Akhtar for the Northern Area title Full Contact rules .Yes we fight any rules from Full Contact right up to MMA

Also my new friend Khalid Al-Johani from AFK who i did an exhibition match with, he is having his first fight and I am looking forward to seeing him in action!

AFK-SL=

Thank you for your support David, its people like you who make the Superleague what it is today.

DP=

The pleasure is all mine , Im glad to be a part of it.
