Anyone worked at Firth Browns?

Hi,i worked at Atlas House,1969-1980 I know this is a long shot,but when i married ,in 1976,i hired the photographer,whose name ,if i remember rightly,was Mr.Bird. I would like to know if anyone knows of him today,as i would like to get some copies of our wedding photos,which we lost when they were in storage at Pickford's Depot on Brightside Lane ,due to a fire in 1984. He used to work from premises next to the Brigg's sandwich shop and i think it was some sort of underground car park or is that my imagination getting carried away.

In reply to an earlier posting from Donnygirl,Firth Derihon was at Darley Dale and still are now but as Firth Rixson. We supplied steel to them for the RB211 Rolls Royce aircraft engines in the 70's ,but not sure wahat they specialise in now. Sheila

Mr. Bird has retired but I think he still does the odd photographic job. The last I heard of him was when he was a part time signal man on the Peak Railway---Rowsley to matlock. I too worked at Atlas House from it's opening until I went out "onto the works"!!

I used to work at Firth Browns, left school 1970 to start as office junior at 37 Gate. There were 4 tracers who worked there, but cant remember their names. One was Sylvia but cant remember the others. I think the surname of one of the others was Watmough, not sure. I went on to work on Princess Street for Works Controls Engineers. Colin Thompson was my Manager and Stan Unwin along with quite a few other engineers in the department.

I worked on flute grind from 71 to 84.

My late mother-in -law worked in the canteen around that time, and I think she might also have been something like shop steward for the Union, although I don't know which one. Her name was Marjorie Booth.

My Uncle, Ken Morris ( born 1917) worked in the export dept there for most of his life & retired abt 1982 I think. He lived at 43 Rothay Rd.

Wilf Aram was the Light M/C Shop manager and I think older than that era, do you mean Wilf Gerrison ? Ray Bond has his own company, the name of which won't come to mind at the moment. Was Alan Batty in that year ?
