Estate Agent Fees

Recommended Posts

It's the age old problem of balancing price with service. If service is good, it's worth paying for. Bare in mind that anyone can drop their price to get your business but not everyone can up their standard of service and deliver on their promises.

However, if fees charged are a key deciding factor for you, then there are plenty of online estate agents setting up who offer a flat fee for sale. Often around £400. Some do a no sale, no fee, so you have little to lose. A lot of these agents have a short trading history so be mindful of that, but it may be worth a punt if fees charged is a sticking point.

James.

Hi everyone - just an update on our earlier post: We decided to try using an online estate agency to sell our house - it sold in less than 4 weeks, and for £20K more than all the three estate agents who came to value it had said we'd get for it  (Hmmmm, undervaluing properties perhaps???).

We paid £250 upfront for marketing on Rightmove etc, and will pay a further £200 upon completion. That's it. The service was excellent - I can't recommend this route highly enough. It's a no-brainer really (unless you need to use an estate agent to do the viewings).

Mamasquirrel,

Could I also have the details for the agency I've recently been quoted nearly 2k and nearly passed out :)

Maybe you should look at commission from this company with the amount of referrals????? lol

Thank you in advance

Good for you! (and hopefully another nail in the head for thieving estate agents).

QUOTE=mamasquirrel;7975360]We weighed it up and decided to go with an online estate agency - apparently over 80% of people looking for houses look on sites like Rightmove etc and don't step foot in an estate agent's office

For 'estate agent's office' read 'Employment Agents office'. Both have had their day, are useless, lie and are not necessary. Go online, every time.

Before anybody makes the dire mistake of setting foot into an estate agents (you know, the ones with all the offices, adverts and flash cars driving round with their name on it - all of which you pay for) read this.

it seems you were in the wrong and you can't get over it!!
