lazarus   68 #49 Posted August 11, 2011 why would anyone want to buy a "cheap" mattress! They dont last as long as good quality ones. save up and buy a good quality mattress, as Lazarus says, it will last a hell of a lot longer. you buy one at say £90 then it will not last 2 years! well, it may but it will be all squished and no good. you save up and buy one at £600 and it will last years and years.  Also my husband pays at least £150. and no we are not loaded. He works bloody hard for his money and when he has enough he can buy the shoes he loves. its not about being loaded and having money its about saving up and getting nice things for yourself. why is that wrong. people spend much much more on booze and cigarettes!  save up. it may take longer than a few weeks but it you will see the difference in a good quality mattress. Spot on sares.
 Share this content via...

DerbyTup   10 #51 Posted August 12, 2011 Never buy cheap mattress or shoes, because if you are not in one you are in the other. A good mattress gives you comfort as do a good pair of shoes, our mattress was £600 and I pay £150 for my shoes and for that price they will last at least twenty years.Buy cheap and you will have to replace in five years time.  You are 100% correct. But you will never convince some/many people of this on here. It's a waste of time trying.  People think it's too expensive to pay £150 for a pair of shoes - so they buy 5or 6 pairs at £50 instead and think they are saving!  I have several pairs of Church's shoes - I've had most of them for about 15 years now. They were £150 back then - more like £350 now.  I wish I had enough money to be able to afford to buy cheap shoes - but I don't.  And as for mattresses - well - it's the most important thing you'll ever buy for the home. I bought ours in the clearance from John Lewis - it had been reduced by about £300 - but was still over a £1000. That's a lot of money for a mattress I know. But it's worth every penny. You can't put a price on comfort and getting a good night's sleep. Particularly if you don't want to end up with back problems later in life.  Some people baulk at paying such money for a mattress - but do not think twice about spending the same money on a flat screen TV!  I know which I think is most important. sares67 Â Â 10 #52 Posted August 12, 2011 Derbytup you are quite right. there are so very many people that think nothing of spending more on a tv than on an essential like a good mattress. also they would buy games consoles and a wedge of games and accessories that would total quite a few hundred pounds over a few months. this could be diverted instead to a good mattress fund! loopylulu   10 #53 Posted August 12, 2011 I dont know who some people on here think they are.  I have reasons for not being able to buy and expensive mattress - and it has nothing to do with spending money on games consoles or games.  Not everybody can save money at the moment - some people have very little disposable income - some people on here should think about that before they start posting on threads like this!!!! jane2008   15 #54 Posted August 12, 2011 The cheaper your mattress, the quicker youl need to replace it.Youl spend a third of your life on this mattress, and a cheap one will bring untold damage to your spinal column, that you may live with for the rest of your life. My advice would be spend as MUCH as you can possibly afford, enjoy a perfect nights rest, and give your back a treat, after all a third of your life is worth the investment. Im fortunate enough to be in a position to buy direct from the manufacturer, and mine cost £800 at wholsale, with a retail price close to 2 grand! Its pocket sprung with over 2000 seperate springs and i estimate it will last me around 5 years, thats the average lifetime for even a TOP quality product. And i get a fantastic and comfortable nights kip A quick tip,a quality manufacturer will give the number of springs in your mattress on the label, any less than 800-1000 springs is going to bring you problems in the future, and will have a lifetime of less than 3 years. And any money youve saved by buying the less expensive product, put into a tracker account for your later years, when youl need a chiroprachter and osteopath.  Looking at this post, most of us can expect to pay 2 grand for a mattress that will last 5 years.  Loopy, buy what you can afford and don't care what anyone else thinks. I work in the high end mobility sector, our biggest line is MATRESSES,for the age range over 55s,the overwhelming majority have slept on budget or low quality products most if not all thier lives. I wonder if you can guess thier ailment......backpain. They come to us because we provide specialist products that can relieve some of thier problems, but we cant cure them. So buy all means buy what you can afford, and il see you in your 50s,by that time your mattress will cost you a lot more than 2 grand, along with all the other relief we can offer, but we cant cure it,and if you cant afford our products, then look foreward to endless nights of broken sleep, along with endless days. Its just advice based on years of experience, you dont have to take it,the question should be can you really afford to sleep on it
 Share this content via...
