Sheffield film 'Threads' - Megathread.

Recommended Posts

Can anyone remember a film shot in Sheffield called THREADS ?

I remember at the time it upset me to death as a kid and Ive just watched it again. Some good ol' Sheffield accents that you dont hear much anymore and some old landmarks too that arenyt around anymore.

I'm surprised that you weren't prompted towards the multiple threads already started about this film when you began this thread.

Yes, a film I really enjoyed. Definitely very harrowing, much more so than the supposed horror films of today. Perhaps being set in Sheffield makes it all the more real.

Reminds me how fragile society really is.

Are you intimating that this particular thread is threadbare.

Threads was written by Barry Hines, and won the BAFTA award for best single drama.

Wow! I've just watched it and it is one of the most harrowing things i've seen. Very real, especially when you see the Moor getting obliterated. It really brings it home, what a danger the world is in... :S

I have it on DVD - We were shown it virtually every other week when I was a kid at school in the 1980's! You forget the actors who were in it too - the guy who played Joe in Corrie was the lead guy, his mam was the old lass out of Early Doors and also now in Corrie as Jack Duckworths fancy woman... Even Zach from Emmerdale is a guy who works in the egg boxes...

It's not about what a danger the world is in - it's about the danger we believed we were in in the 1980's... These days we are blowing the Wicker up in Four Lions, as this is the danger we see today...
